Addiction

Fandom is a way of changing, more like many activities such as reading books, eating, and singing, dancing, cooking, and watching TV and the like fandom is a usual activity for a fan. In recent years, Korean wave becomes the new cultural trend in the Philippines. It leaves a great impact to every viewers especially to students. Impacts that may lead them to a wider world, the Korean drama world, where a person is into Korean Drama. "Filipinos love drama and stories that we can relate to. Most of the time, the Korean dramas are quite escapist and moving. Aside from the touching plotlines, the production is really a visual experience of places that most of us are not accustomed to seeing,” (Abacan, 2009). Korean drama lovers admit that “k-drama is life”, they can’t last a day without watching at least one episode nor skipping any k-drama without watching it. A behavior that is normal to them yet they can’t notice not just the changes but also the expenses of it. The reasons behind the students are being hooked to Korean dramas are because Korean dramas are full of entertainment, with dramatic plots adorable and handsome male actors, both main and supporting, and have always a pretty leading ladies(tapulgo,2012), beautiful soundtracks (ost) and interesting stories that will turn your world upside down. Watching Korean drama also involves adoption. Students may adopt Korean culture, Hangeul, cuisines, fashions and styles (Diffusion of Culture, Rogers, 2003). Due to this adoption, some of the k-drama lovers might experience discrimination because of ignoring their own culture. Though for them, k-drama does not bring bad influence, instead, they used it as an inspiration in accomplishing their responsibilities. Inevitably, k-dramas are uncontrollable on spreading all over the country and influencing Filipinos. Even young or young at heart were really hooked to it. Korean drama serves as an entertainment, for fun and pleasure but sometimes it can bring effects to those who watch it unstoppably.
