On the Mediterranean coast of Spain and in the Balearic Islands, the 'Nit of San Juan' (St. John's eve) is celebrated as the beginning of the summer solstice.The most intense part of the festival is the performance of the so-called 'dimonis' (devils), who run after the people with torches and fireworks to chase away evil spirits.
