Life Lately
I am writing this article to vent out about how my life is going now. I don't know where this will lead.
Why I decided to write an article just now? I was preparing to work out but my mind is not cooperating. There are a lot of things going on that kept me preoccupied. I wasn’t able to focus.
Every day I wake up and I don't know what to do.
Demotivated. Frustrated. Exhausted.
Since the start of the pandemic, my life was completely miserable. I would wake up and I have no clue about what my day is going to be. I always end up using my phone all day because I don't have the energy to do anything.
Before, I have a to do list. All of the activities was written there: waking up at 9 o’clock, work out, eat lunch before 12, and shower after eating lunch. The depressive episodes ruined all of it. I went back to my old habit: sleeping very late, waking up at 12 pm, and not working out at all.
My mental health is at risk and I am not handling it well. I don’t know who to talk to. Whom I can go to.
One of the things that give me stress are my friends. They kept insisting and telling me to go out of the house. I’m pissed off because of them. There’s this moment when one of my friends compared me to my mom. She told, why don’t I go out like my mom does? I answered. Why would I go out and be a protocol violator? I don’t even have an important thing to do outside. The sole reason to why they want me to go out of the house is to go drinking and I will not do it just to be with them. Being alcoholic was one of the reasons why I gained weight and it made me addicted to it.
I promised myself to bring back my healthy lifestyle this summer vacation. And working out will help me achieve that. Cutting off bad habits are also on my list.
Yesterday, I was demotivated. I felt that my efforts are not being reciprocated. The bot hasn't viewed my articles and I feel bad about it. I always planned to create a blog of my own but it never happens because I don’t have the time. Not to be hypocrite, I got interested when I found out that I can earn money here, it served as a little push for me to turn my plans into reality.
Until I decided to take a break from writing because I felt that I needed to replenish my energy. Those three days that I was on a break, I was writing topics that I will be making articles about. I was reading articles of other users and I looked back at those people who supported me from the start up to the present. Thank you to these beautiful people who upvoted and nominated me: @JulyAnn, @immaandmerry, @Constellations.ruin, @kli4d, and @kushina. Thank you guys because you have made me felt that my efforts are appreciated.
Fin.

Reintroducing Myself.
I have already posted an article about myself, but I realized that it wasn't enough. I didn't talk much about who I am.
I discovered this platform through my friend, Adam. He first told me about noise.cash and told me that there is an avenue for writers.
How did I come up with this username?
WanderingMedStudent. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, Wandering is a noun that means going from place to place. As a kid, I would go wandering in the woods with my friends. I love to explore different places.
And I am also a med student who is taking up Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
My Early Childhood
I was raised in the beautiful province of Albay, where Mount Mayon is located.
Growing up in the province made me experience the simplicity of living life. Playing the whole afternoon with friends and going home with dirty clothes.
_________________________________________________
My friends and I would dive into the river that was just near our place and that's where I learned how to swim. My dad would always beat me up with a stick because I always swim without even asking permission. There were multiple times where I almost drowned in this river. It was one of the reason why I learned how to swim. I started doing the doggie paddle/ free style the eventually how to do sidestroke and so on...
_________________________________________________
Growing up, I was exposed to different kind of animals. We had a small farm and I have to take turns of feeding the livestock and poultry with my Dad and older brother.
Taking care of different kind of animals made an impact to my life. It has a vital role to what was my decision when I was choosing a course for college.
I wrote about how my grandmother was a big part of my childhood in one of my articles. https://read.cash/@WanderingMedStudent/i-cannot-live-without-my-grandmother-234e41c4
Early Education
I studied in a public elementary school that was located near my parents' workplace. They opted to enroll us there because they can easily look after us and go there if they were needed.
While I was studying, my Mom enrolled me in two different music classes. I was part of the bandurria club and our school band.
I played the bandurria and xylophone.
I played the xylophone for five years and the bandurria for three years. It was a whirlwind experience. Competing everywhere in the Province.
My bandurria career stopped because our instructor died -- he was Tito Boy. He was respected and a great friend of my grandfather.
I had fun in my elementary years. My friends and I would always play in the muddy fields when it rains. I can still remember the time when we were so happy when classes got suspended because of the heavy rains. It was a relief for us because we wouldn't have to deal with numbers and other lectures.
I was the treasurer of our school's Supreme Pupil Government. Remembering it now is just too funny for me. Lol. At the actual grand rally when I was reading my speech, my hands were shaking like a Nokia 3210! It was an embarrassing moment for me. My schoolmates still remember it up to this day.
Life back then in elementary was so chill for me. I would just think of playing with my Classmates.
I graduated the year 2012.
Highschool Life!
As a kid who just wants to play and has a chill life, entering high school got me culture-shocked! It was a huge adjustment.
I'm not the type of student who can easily absorb all the information. I was a late bloomer.
In 7th grade, I was admitted to section 1 in the Basic Education Curriculum. And from 8th to 10th Grade I was in the second section.
I felt at ease staying with my Classmates in the second section. It was okay for me because I had an experience where my teachers would always compare our section to others when I was still at the first section. It was a realization for me that I didn't want to be in the spotlight.
Having to be on the second section was a low-key chill because there were not that many expectations from teachers. It actually made a way for me to be friends with other people.
Senior High school
I attended senior high school at the same school. I took Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Strand which was on the Academic Track. To be honest, I didn't even know why I chose that strand even if I already knew that it was going to be a hell of a ride.
I've become friends with new people! The ones I thought I would never be close to. I can say that they were a big help for me during the difficult days of my senior high school life.
Hobbies and Interests
Watching Movies/Series/TeleSerye
Listening to Music
Working out
Gardening
Jogging
Bicycling
Senior high school was the time when I fell in love with Korean drama. My friends were the ones who influenced me about the world of Korean drama. I was so into it!
I have a huge admiration for Lee Min-ho. I can even volunteer to be his assistant without a salary. Lol.
"Legend of the Blue Sea" was the first Korean drama that I watched because of him. After watching it, it took me a long time to watch again a series that he's a part of. I watched the series "The King: Eternal Monarch" this pandemic.
Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil are a celebrity couple here in the Philippines. I am a huge fan of them since their tv show, Forevermore. I can still remember the time when my Mom and I went to the National Book store. I made her buy their merch for me. It was a bag tag.
Last year, I was so obsessed with running. 5 am was the usual time I would get out of bed to prepare to run. I find solace in it.
I started working out in the summer of 2019. It was just a hobby of mine. Now, I work out for my mental health. For my sanity.
Swimming! I so love this activity. Aside from enjoying the refreshing water, it is also a kind of workout.
Whenever I feel like I have to unwind, I take my bike and go to places where I can be alone. To reflect on me.
https://youtu.be/OP-00EwLdiU
I enjoy listening to worship songs. It brings tranquility to me. It's my way of connecting with God through singing.
The activities that help me keep sane are Jogging, Working out, and Bicycling. I would usually do this whenever the stress, anxiety, and depressive episode are taking a toll on my mental health.
Present Life
I am currently on my second year of college studying Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
My decision when I was choosing a course for college was greatly influenced by my environment. I grew up being exposed to animals. I felt that there was a need for me to help the animals and be their voice, that this was a calling for me.

What it is like to Study in the Middle of a Pandemic?
This online class set-up started because of the global pandemic-- the COVID-19. Classes from the school year 2019-2020 was suspended due to the threat of this virus. The government was later forced to implement a nationwide lockdown that started between March 27-May 31, 2020. It was announced after two days when the Metro Manila was placed under "Community Quarantine" that was ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.
It was reported that over 3 million students didn't enroll for this school year. Most of the identified reasons were lack of devices and some chose to stop to work.
My thoughts when I first heard about the Implementation of Online Class.
Not everyone is privileged to attend online class.
Am I really going to learn?
Is it going to be effective?
How will it affect my learning as a med student?
Since the lockdown started, I wasn't able to spend my energy. I didn't know what to do with my extra energy. I was bored.
All those excessive energy ruined my sleeping pattern. I wasn't able to sleep early. The usual time I would sleep is at around 4 o'clock in the morning and the most late that I've slept was around 7 o'clock. It got worse from time to time. My sleeping pattern got me worried for the upcoming resume of classes.
The start of School Year 2020-2021
Waking up early was a challenge for me. During the first semester I had a 7 am class. Like most of the students, I would fall asleep during class. And sometimes I would wake up and be surprised that I was the only one left in the meeting.
Learning through online class was so hard for me as a med student. I couldn't absorb the information that was taught by my professor.
Days went by and here comes our first assessment. My friends and I were so worried about what will be on the exam. I studied all the modules that were given until midnight. The test was 80 items and I got half of it, 41 to be exact. Was I happy? No, the passing score is 75% of the exam. At that time I was already telling myself to quit school because I wasn't learning.
My friend Sarah was already planning to stop studying because she was the one that was really having trouble with this set-up. I mean most of us.
The unexpected happened, typhoons hit our place. 3 consecutive typhoons to be exact. Because of that, the electricity lines were down. We suffered from months of no electricity. Online classes were suspended that time and the first sem was pushed to finish. Backlogs were piling up that caused so much stress for all of us.
The struggles of online class didn't just stop. I really felt that I was going to fail one of my subjects. The scores that I got on that subject didn't pass. Fortunately, my professor gave us a removal exam. And for the most frustrating part is, I didn't pass the exam, again. Thankfully, the project was a huge impact on my grade.
Me: Good morning, Doc. I would just like to know my grade in your subject.
Him: 2.9 .
Me: Alright Doc. Thank you!
My prof messaged us on our chat group and said that there were 10 students who failed the subject. At that moment I was already so worried. I immediately asked him what was my grade. To my relief when I saw my grade, it was a piece of hope. I learned something from that experience, to not lose hope and also to not be complacent.
Second Semester of S.Y. 2020-2021
It was a never ending rat-race. The cycle kept going on.
This sem, I applied what I experienced and learned about my struggles in the first sem. I strived hard and accomplished activities before the due dates.
Several professors didn't teach us. Since it was based on Synchronous and Asynchronous learning.
I had lazy profs that they wouldn't even make learning resources of their own, they would just get from Google and expect us that we would learn all by ourselves. It affected my learning. Those times I was thinking, " If they can't give efforts in their teaching. Then, I won't even make an effort to read the modules."
Now, the semester is going to end for me in a few days. I am bound to take an exam on Tuesday. From that day, I would enjoy my "School break".
Author's message:
I know this learning set-up wasn't easy for all of us-- both educators and students. If you need to rest, then take time for it.
Wishing well all of the students who dropped out of school because of this pandemic. I
Let us continue to pray for the souls of the educators and students who took their own lives that are already with the Almighty God.
May we continue to take precautionary measures for this global pandemic to end.
I cannot live without my Grandmother.
**Note**: I am writing this article based on how I remember the events from my early childhood.
My early childhood.
My parents had my older brother at a very young age, they were at their early 20s. They had me at 21 years old, meaning that my brother and I are just one year apart and next to me is my younger brother and sister. Back then, they were still studying or fresh graduates. My mom was a graduate of Accountancy and my dad was a graduate of Marine Transportation.
Both of them needed to work to provide for us. They entered many jobs, my siblings and I were left to my grandmother and to some of our relatives.
Will you believe me if I tell you that I did not know any of my siblings when I was growing up? Basically, we did not grow together. I grew up with my older brother but he wasn't present in my memory. I didn't knew where my younger brother was that time and my sister was in the care of my Aunt, which was the first cousin of my mom.
At the course of my parents working hard and striving hard to provide for us, they were away from us. My grandmother raised me in my early childhood and she let me experienced all the things in life. She taught me how to live a simple life. I learned to eat rice with sugar and smoked fish (tinapa in tagalog) with rice.
Since I was with my Grandmother, I was always with her wherever she goes. We moved to Manila to lived with my aunt and stayed their for a couple of years. She took care of me and my cousin there because my aunt was also with her work. We moved back to Bicol because my Aunt requested to be deployed their. And the moving never stops. We lived at Legazpi City, Albay for several years and decided to go back in my hometown.
The day came where my parents moved back here in our hometown because of their work. They were fortunate enough to find a job in the government. Since they are already here in our hometown, they decided to take me back from my Grandmother. It was not easy. Since they were away from us and I was moving from different houses, I didn't know them that they were my parents.
Adjusting to my new environment was so hard. I got separation anxiety.
I left the house at 9 o'clock pm.
There are days that I would cry because of my Grandmother. One night, I left the house crying and went to look for my Grandmother ---it was 9 o'clock in the evening! As arrived there, my Grandmother welcomed me and let me sleep. And suddenly my Mom arrives to pick me up. They wanted me to get used to living with them.
The escaping never stopped. Whenever I have the chance, I would leave. They decided to get me a Nanny that can look over me. She was ate Evelyn. She was nice and patient. But I didn't need her in my life. I was still looking for the presence of my Grandmother.
Finally, my parents decided that my Grandmother live with us. Now, she is still with us and looking after us. I cannot wait for the time that I would give back to all of her efforts in raising us and making us feel loved all the time. She was the person who filled the space in my heart when my parents were not around.

Pride Month: A Protest for Equality 🏳️🌈
Pride month is celebrated annually, it is a month long celebration. The pride day is June 28 every year. Know that it is not just a celebration but, it is also a protest. It is a fight for the rights and injustices of the members of the community.
PRIDE is an acronym for Personal Rights in Defense and Education.
History of Pride. Who started it?
Pride was coordinated by an American woman and was known as the "Mother of Pride", she is Brenda Howard. She is considered as one of the important figures in the LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY. Since then, Pride is annually celebrated every June. But why the month of June? Because it was the time when the Stonewall riots took place in 1969.
Why do we celebrate Pride?
Every day the members of the LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY experience harassment, discrimination, violence, and worst death. This celebration promotes sexual diversity. This serves as awareness on how the members face different dilemma on a daily basis. For the community, this is a protest to fight for their rights and be identified for who they are.
What is the result of Pride?
Since then, many rights have been formed for the LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY and 29 countries have made it legal to have same sex marriage. Although the injustices still remain, the protest has played a huge role to lessen it.
My message to my fellow members of the community.
You have fought for the life that you have right now. Continue to fight for equality and abolish discrimination and violence against our community. Remember to always be kind to other people. Padayon! ✊🏳️🌈
