Instead of having a usual year-end party with games and food, my second year college daughter and her classmates chose a different way to celebrate it. Their school gave them a choice. They could help kids or animals, they decided to visit an animal shelter. It was a small decision, but it turned into a meaningful experience for all of them. Before the visit, each student contributed what they could. Some brought dog and cat food, while others shared small amounts to help the shelter. There was no pressure to give much. What mattered was that everyone joined and cared. My daughter was excited and curious because it was her first time visiting an animal shelter. I was worried that she'll be scratch by the animals. So I told her to be very careful. When they arrived, they were welcomed by the volunteers. The shelter had many dogs, each with different stories. Some were playful and energetic, while others were quiet and shy. The volunteers explained how the animals were rescued and how they are cared for every day. The children listened closely and showed respect. It was memorable experience at the animal shelter.
