Irregular Menses: What's The Cause? The normal menstrual cycle is from 21 to 35 days. This is the time when the uterus thickens and falls out during menstruation. Usually, menstruation lasts from 2 to 7 days. There are women who have irregular menstruation. Sometimes menstruation is weak, and sometimes very strong and lasts beyond 7 days. Sometimes there is a long interval between the arrival of menses (over 35 days). Here are the possible reasons: 1. Pregnancy - If there is a pregnancy problem such as ectopic pregnancy (outside the uterus the fetus is formed), menstruation will be irregular. 2. Uterine tumor - It is possible to have a uterine condition such as myoma, ovarian cyst, polyp and other tumors. See a doctor. 3. Taking medication-Taking aspirin and warfarin thin the blood. As a result, the bleeding may increase. Taking medication for depression and brain damage can also stop menstruation. 4. Stress-Aside from stress, working at night or night-shift workers is likely to cause irregular menses. The right timing of the body is disturbed. 5. Smoking - Cigarettes are likely to cause irregular menses. 6. Excessive exercise-When you exercise a lot, your body will think you are stressed. As a result, menstruation will temporarily stop. 7. Lack of nutrition - If you are malnourished, you will be deficient in blood and menstruation will be pale. 8. Menopause - The average age of menopause is from 48 to 55. Menstruation becomes irregular, weakens and eventually stops. 9. Thyroid diseases such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) causes hormonal imbalance and menstrual irregularities. Consult a doctor. Check with an Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OB): Your OB will perform a pelvic examination. You will also get a CBC to check for anemia. Ultrasound of the Uterus (Ultrasound of the Abdomen and Pelvis) can help diagnose lumps in the uterus, ovary and other parts. Depending on the disease seen, the doctor will provide the right treatment for you. Sometimes the doctor gives "pills" to make your period regular. Good luck. #GoodAdvices
