TopInField: Viya, Chinese super popular livestreamer, helps alleviate poverty and recover national economy stricken by COVID-19 in 2020. Dubbed livestream queen, Huang Wei, or better known as Viya, is more than a super saleswoman that can “sell anything.” With her internet clout, the young key opinion leader has organized her team to boost anti-poverty campaigns, selling local products from poorer parts of China. Her first attempt to promote sales for farm products came in 2016 when east China’s Zhejiang province was hit by typhoon and was left with mountains of waxberries stranded in flood. She then helped to introduce standardized production lines and marketing skills for villagers to promote their product sales. With affirmation and determination, from 2016 to 2020, Viya has helped poverty-stricken households sell agricultural products worth nearly 600 million yuan in total. Specifically, during the #COVID19 pandemic, the 35-year-old anchor’s evening livestream sales became Taobao’s most-watched e-commerce show. She also visited pandemic-hit Wuhan and selected featured products from the city. As the city strove to restore local production, Viya together with China Central Television launched a public welfare live broadcast that hit sales of more than 250 million yuan ($37.3 million). Viya has also set up a positive image of a powerful woman, leading women’s role to grow in China, encouraging more Chinese women to contribute their efforts to society. In 2020, Viya was honored with a national award for her efforts in poverty alleviation and the title of March 8th Red-Banner Individual Holder, one of the highest honors given to the country's outstanding women by the All-China Women's Federation, Xinhua reported.
