Petra
**Hello everyone.Good evening. Now i am going to share about a place which is the wonder of modern science and Historical place in Jordan..** **And This is.. "Petra"...** Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, the "Rose City." Perhaps its most famous structure is 45m-high Al Khazneh, a temple with an ornate, Greek-style facade, and known as The Treasury.
**It is Famous** for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system, **Petra** is also called the 'Rose City' because of the colour of the stone from which it is carved. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. **Petra** is a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan's most-visited tourist attraction.
**Petra** is Sometimes **Called the 'Lost City**'. In spite of its being such an important **city** in antiquity, after the 14th century AD, **Petra** was completely **lost** to the western world. Visitor numbers subsequently increased and reached a record-breaking 1.1 million tourists in 2019, marking the first time that the figure rose above the 1 million mark.Tourism in the city was crippled by the covid-19 pandemic as visitor numbers plummeted to zero since March 2020. The Jordanian government has authorized excavations in front of the treasury to make use of the site's emptiness.
