Well, St Louis/Alpha Tech Electronics was a bust. They did have an extremely nice old wooden cased Kenwood - for $900.00 - that kept trying to seduce me, and I almost succumbed to her siren song...'almost' being the operative word here. Damn...she sure was a beautiful piece of work, and I did seriously consider it for a few minutes, but I had my heart set on an older model Marantz - of which they had nary a one - so I came home empty handed. But tomorrow...tomorrow I am driving 60 miles north to look at a late-70s Marantz Model 2015. This could very well be exactly what I am looking for. It is not a high-power receiver, weighing in at only 15 watts per channel maximum, but 30 watts driving the correctly efficient speakers is a lot more than people think. Ask a guitarist how loud a little 10 watt practice amp is and then multiply that x3. I'm taking my new turntable and my Infinity RS5 tower speakers along for the ride. This thing ain't cheap (it works out to roughly $16.66 per watt) and it is 40-45 years old - it definitely needs to go for a 'test-drive', especially when you throw in the fact that it was bought at an estate sale and the guy that has it has never 'put it through its paces' - it powers up, and he hooked up a pair of cheapo speakers to make sure it does work, but making noise and lighting up doesn't mean it will sound like a high-fidelity amplifier/receiver should. #VinylJunkie
