Did You Know? The whale is a mammal, and small whales suckle, but not through direct contact like other land mammals. Rather, the whale female throws the milk away while her baby is close enough to breastfeed, but whale milk has a high fat content of 50%. As a result, the milk is thick and sticky, and it does not dissolve in water. Thus, the little whale can grab and consume the milk.
