It is made up of 32 to 34 bones called vertebrae and has five regions: **Cervical:** composed of 7 vertebrae **Dorsal:** composed of 12 vertebrae on which the ribs articulate **Lumbar:** with five vertebrae **Sacra:** with 5 vertebrae welded into the sacrum **Coccygea:** composed of 3,4 or 5 atrophied vertebrae
