You Need a Password Manager. Seriously. You’ve probably heard of password managers before. But what do they really do? And how useful are they, really? Password managers... manage your passwords. They basically store your login information securely and make it so you only need to memorize one password: the password to access your password manager. They also generate extremely secure passwords that you wouldn’t be able to memorize, so that machines won’t be able to guess them. Password managers are also easy built into many modern browsers and OSes, but they often times don’t sync across platforms. For example, iOS has a password manager built in. But you can’t access it on Windows, Android, or the web. I’m going to use 1Password as an example of a password manager, since that’s the one I use. They aren’t paying me or anything for this, it’s just the one I have. Imagine this: you use your (ahem) “secure” password “briefcase28($@!)82” all across the web. Everything is fine, until one of the websites you use gets hacked and your password gets exposed. Now, if you reused that password (as many people understandably do), you can be hacked at any time, at any website you signed up for. Oh no! Now: imagine the same scenario with a password manager. Oh no! One of the websites you use got hacked! It’s a good thing you never reuse passwords and they are always super long and random! You reset the password on the hacked account and don’t have to worry about other accounts also getting hacked. Plus, if the hacked websites only exposed password hashes, it would be much, much easier to crack your password than a 72 character long completely randomized password, since cracking hashes is basically guessing them until something matches. Are you starting to see how useful password managers can be? Now, what if instead of a website getting hacked, someone just tries to brute force (guess) your password. Your password might be easy to crack if it’s not long enough, but absolutely nobody can guess a really long one generated by a password manager. In addition to normal password protection, it can also store 2 factor authentication codes, just in case someone did guess your password. When 2FA is on, the password is useless when you don’t have the authentication code. Password managers don’t just store passwords. The password manager I use can store text, files like PDFs, Wi-Fi passwords, software licenses, bank credentials, credit cards, and basically anything else. *But wait... what if my password manager gets hacked?* Let’s suppose someone knows your password and your email for your password manager. Can they get in? No. With 1Password, the one I use, you need your email, password, and a long random password called the “secret key” that’s virtually unguessable. (Note: this is for 1Password’s paid service. A local database only needs a password, so you better make it a good one.) You can even turn on 2FA for your password manager, if you’re really paranoid. Note: this might not be the same for other password managers. For instance, Lastpass only needs an email and password to login, and it can’t store 2FA info. I believe it does send a confirmation email though. Hope you enjoyed this article! Read.Cash vs Publish0x: Which One Is Better for Creators, Really? I’m gonna get right to the point. Creators like me use these platforms to get rewarded for posting content, and creators will want to use the platform that rewards them the most. So, which one pays out the most, and which one has the most features? Publish0x is a platform to post content that rewards its authors with ETH and ERC-20 tokens. Users can tip authors using the website’s fund, but they can also change how much to give. What makes this unique is that when you tip an author, you can tip yourself. This attracts more users, but also makes it really hard for an author to get any amount of crypto from it by just writing. Tips can go as low as 20% to the author and 80% to the reader, which is, in my opinion, giving the reader too much. Here is what they paid me for 3 articles, including my most popular one on read.cash. $0.38. The most popular article got me $0.16. By comparison, that same article got me about $2.50 on read.cash, although it’s hard to tell how much exactly due to read.cash not telling you how much you got from each article. From read.cash, I got about $3 total from all my articles. The largest reason why this happened is probably due to how you can boost your articles on read.cash to gain more views. I’ve constantly boosted my article about how to receive any crypto using a Ledger or other hardware wallet without having to have physical access to it, and every time, it’s given me more back than I spent boosting it. That is because it is indeed a pretty good article, and any hardware wallet user would benefit from reading it. It would even help non-hardware wallet users. Publish0x has no such feature. The only way you can advertise it is by your own social media, which doesn’t help small creators get noticed as much as read.cash’s boosting, since it requires you already have influence. The blogs that get the most from P0x are the ones that already have many followers, and it’s rare to see a very small blog getting anything more than $0.30. By contrast, on read.cash, it’s very common to see small blogs from every part of the world getting tons and tons of upvotes. Boosting articles will get you a lot of impressions, regardless of how big on the platform you are. Plus, you can get tipped directly on read.cash, so if someone wanted to give you $10, they can! You can’t do that at all on P0x. You also can’t sponsor blogs on 0x like you can on read.cash. On read.cash, you can make posts about EVERYTHING. People will upvote it and it will get popular no matter what topic it is, as long as it is well written. By contrast, Publish0x seems to only care about cryptocurrency articles. Another reason why I’m sticking with read.cash is the way they do payouts. Publish0x has the problem of being Ethereum based, which is not great, considering how incredibly high the fees are now (it’ll cost you a few dollars, even for a simple ETH transaction!!!). They also do payouts every few weeks, and have minimum withdrawal amounts to minimize ETH fees. They could fix this by switching to Stellar, which has virtually no fees and supports ETH and BAT through the use of gateways, but for now, that’s not gonna happen. However, on read.cash, you get paid every day and enjoy the low transaction fee of Bitcoin Cash. There’s no minimum payout amount, so even 1 upvote will get you some BCH. The only thing about read.cash that’s worse than Publish0x is the comments section. On P0x, you can’t get paid from upvotes on your comments, so there is virtually no spam. On read.cash, there is TONS. While most are compliments, they also add absolutely nothing to the conversation. Even though I’m mentioning how bad spam is right now, someone will inevitably comment “good article, subscribe back” down below. It’s inevitable. Either way, I’ll post articles to both platforms. It costs nothing and takes virtually no time to copy-paste articles from one to another, and the few cents I get from P0x will eventually add up. Who knows, I might even get lucky and one of my articles could get a bunch of tips. So, a quick overview/TLDR of what I just said: Read.cash paid me more and has more features. It also pays quicker and lets you write about anything, not just crypto. Publish0x rewards users for reading articles, however, and there are more big names using it. I’ll just use both. MetaMask for Mobile: Dapps Anywhere! MetaMask is the most popular and easiest way to interact with Ethereum Dapps. It’s been around for years, and it has tons and tons of features. It may have actually singlehandedly made Ethereum popular, as without it, it would be much harder to interact with Dapps. However, it’s never been made for mobile devices, and alternatives like Status required you run a full node on your device. Recently, there have been better alternatives, but MetaMask itself has never been made for mobile. However, very recently, MetaMask released its app for Android and iOS. That’s right, you can just search “MetaMask” in your app store and download it right now! Here’s what MetaMask says about their app: Whether you are an experienced user or brand new to blockchain, MetaMask helps you connect to the decentralized web: a new internet. We're trusted by millions of people across the world, and our mission is to make this new decentralized web accessible to all. The MetaMask app is both a wallet & a browser. Buy, send, spend & exchange your digital assets. Make payments to anyone, anywhere. Log into websites securely to trade assets, lend, borrow, play games, publish content, buy rare digital art, and so much more. With MetaMask, your keys and assets always stay in your control; • Use MetaMask’s key vault, secure login and digital wallet to manage your digital assets. • Generate passwords and keys on your phone and keep your accounts secure. • Browse and connect to the decentralized web sites. • Control what information you share with the sites you use, and what to keep private. If you’re already a MetaMask desktop user, the app will sync your existing wallet in seconds. If you're a new user, we'll help you get setup! 4 Ways To Earn Crypto with Writing Points. Crypto. We all want them. It's literally getting money for clicking "like" on our content. How do you get it though? The first way is to write an article. Sometimes, you want to make it long and span multiple pages, and sometimes short and to the point, like this article. Of course, not everyone can do this, but everyone can try. Even just trying to write articles daily will vastly improve your skill over time, and turn you into an excellent author given enough practice. It has to be original content; copy-pasting something will make it non-exclusive and probably make it show up less or receive less points. Your story won't reach everyone who might like it, though, so once you have received a few likes and gotten it deposited to your wallet, it's a good idea to boost your article if you think it will do well. For instance, I think I will boost my previous article about infinite apps on the Ledger Nano S, as I think it will receive more points than I paid if I boost it, but not my article on Tron's new governance token, since it was short and probably old news by now. The second way is to post articles to other places. The 3 I use are Publish0x (which is a lot like read.cash), Steemit, and Hive. There's no guarantee you'll get any traction on the last 2, since only the big whales usually get attention, but on Publish0x, tips are completely free and reward the user, so almost every story will get tipped at least once. For instance, in the 30 minutes I spent writing this and doing other stuff, my article I just published got 70 views and about $0.08, which isn't bad for 30 minutes. The third way is to write an *insightful* comment. "Good article", "love it", "great job", etc. won't cut it. You have to reply with something meaningful. It doesn't have to be a whole paragraph, but it does have to be meaningful. Even then, this is slower and will earn you less than writing an article, so while I'm not saying you shouldn't bother, you should try to make articles. If you do write a comment and want to earn off of it, you should also make sure to like the post you're commenting on, so it will get more views, and by extension, your comment will get more views. A fourth, final way to earn crypto is to get referrals from faucets. If you post links to faucets at the end of an article, you'll probably get a few clicks, especially if the faucet is well-paying. In summary, if you want to get as many points as possible, you should write an article, not only because it earns you points, but because it will also improve your writing skill. Articles can be copy-pasted to different places as long as it's your content, but good comments can't, and good comments probably won't improve your writing skill much. Speaking of well-paying faucets... **Free Bitcoin (BTC)** https://freebitco.in/?r=1888367 **Moon BCH (BCH)** http://moonbitcoin.cash/?ref=72040C1194AD Pipeflare (ZEC, DASH, & PIVX) https://pipeflare.io/r/1j40 Zenhub (ZEN) https://getzen.cash/auth/register?ref=290862 Globalhive (ZEC) https://globalhive.io/r/26173 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Into cloud mining? You Don’t Need Ledger Apps Installed to Receive Every Crypto **One of the major issues with the Ledger Nano S and similar hardware wallets is that you can’t install that many crypto apps. You have space for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and maybe one more major crypto. The Ledger Nano X can store up to 100 apps, which is much better, but it is more expensive and it's not worth upgrading if you already have a Nano S, like me. However, if you want to accept and receive a large number of different cryptos, or use a lot of different faucets, reinstalling apps all the time through Ledger Live isn’t a very good or efficient solution.** However, there is a way to store all your public addresses *securely, verifiably,* and *freely*. All you need is a Google account. That solution is called Google Sheets. It’s perfect for organizing data of similar types; of course, crypto addresses are very similar in format so they are easy to organize using it. Sheets also tells you if any changes were made and can tell you exactly what changed, in case someone makes some unauthorized changes. Here’s how to make an easy Sheet with all your addresses. (Example is after the instructions in case you don’t understand or just want to see it). First, create a Google Sheet. Second, in the first row, create 3 columns labeled Coin, Name, and Address. Third, make that row a header. On mobile, it’s a long press option on the row I believe. On desktop, you have to locate a thick grey bar underneath “fx” and right above the top row. Drag that down to the bottom of row 1. Fourth, add whatever cryptos you want under Coin and Name that you know your Ledger supports. For example, to add Bitcoin, you would add BTC under Coin, Bitcoin under Name, and your address under Address. Name can be whatever you want to identify that address, but Coin must be the coin ticker. Fifth, go into Ledger Live and install the apps to whatever you want to add. Get the addresses via Ledger Live, or if the coin doesn’t support it, the coin’s wallet software. Simply copy-paste the address into the Address field. Make sure the address corresponds with the coin you’re pasting it into. Sixth, right-click column A and select “Sort A -> Z”. This will organize your sheet and make it super easy to find the right address. At this point, you’re done! You can still add more though. I added a “privkey” row that doesn’t contain private keys but instead tells what app it is (for example Ledger is many of the fields, but Wallet of Satoshi is for my Bitcoin Lightning address). I’ve also added a “has balance” field, so I can easily see what does and doesn’t have any balance. If you have a VERY SECURE Google account (I mean physical FIDO U2F keys enabled as 2FA) or Google Advanced Protection Program like me, you *can* add actual private keys if you want, since your account is basically unhackable via traditional means. But on an insecure account, it's asking for your funds to be stolen. My example is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Awv8c_Wc2KGJBCyBZDqVq_Y27T6CXpeaUj1VxdW0OSY/ ***But how is this secure***, you may ask? ***What if a hacker gets access to your Google account?*** ***How could you prevent sending coins to the wrong address?*** Google Sheets has a nifty little feature that tells you when the file was last modified. It’s right next to the toolbar on desktop; it will say “*last edit was X minutes/hours/days ago*”. If you see it has changed recently and you’re not sure it was you, you can also view the file history on desktop to see exactly what changed and when. This will prevent you from sending funds to the wrong place, even if you somehow didn't know your account was hacked. You also don’t have to use Google Sheets. It could be a Excel file stored on a flash drive, it could be on Excel Online, it could be a file on your phone. If you want it to sync, Sheets or Excel Online is your best bet because you can access them on desktop and mobile and save them offline. Another nice thing about Sheets is that there are a bunch of crypto add-ons, so you can keep track of transactions, balances, net worth, and more. I haven’t used any of these personally, but I’m sure they work pretty good. If you're looking for a good crypto faucet to test these instructions with, this faucet sends you literally 3 different types of coins directly to your address almost INSTANTLY with NO FEES. Seriously. This is actually why I made that Sheet; there are so many cryptos to get. **Free Bitcoin (BTC)** https://freebitco.in/?r=1888367 **Moon BCH (BCH)** http://moonbitcoin.cash/?ref=72040C1194AD Pipeflare (ZEC, DASH, & PIVX) https://pipeflare.io/r/1j40 Zenhub (ZEN) https://getzen.cash/auth/register?ref=290862 Globalhive (ZEC) https://globalhive.io/r/26173 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Into cloud mining? TRON Launches DeFi community governance staking token: SUN Today, Tron launched its new DeFi/governance token: SUN. It will be a token which allows the community to vote on proposals. It’s also probably named after Justin Sun, the creator of Tron. Proposals introduced by Tron will be voted on by the community using SUN. **How do I stake SUN?** Currently SUN can be staked on their website: https://sun.market/#/home or https://sun.io/#/home . The staked TRX is locked for a period of 14 days after which it will be sent back, along with your new SUN tokens. This ensures that SUN is distributed to the community fairly. Here is the way in which the staking determines how much SUN you earn: Amount of pre-mined SUN the user receives = **the share of SUN the user is entitled to * total amount of pre-mined SUN** In which: Total amount of pre-mined SUN = **SUN total supply * pre-mined percentage** Share of SUN the user is entitled to = **(amount of TRX the user staked * lock-up duration) / (∑amount of TRX staked by all users * lock-up duration)** Additionally, every week, the amount of SUN earned by staking decreases, until September 16, where “Genesis Mining” will end. “Regular mining” will do the same thing, except that you can stake other tokens in addition to TRON to earn SUN. If you want to get SUN, the best time is now. In Week 1, 845728 SUN will be mined. In Week 2, 676582 SUN will be mined. In Week 3, 541266 SUN will be mined. And so on and so forth. A total of 4109616 SUN can be mined, equivalent to 20.65% of the total supply. Regular Mining in the other mining pools: A total of 13930511 SUN will be mined, equivalent to 70% of the total supply. After regular mining is done, SUN plans to begin Phase 3 (Docking to numerous DeFi projects within the TRON ecosystem) and Phase 4 (SUN holders are able to govern the SUN community themselves. The more SUN you own, the greater power you have).
