Bolu reluctantly agreed to my idea of going to Ikorodu today.
He has a parcel of land there and I advised him since this is a festive season, go there and show love to the locals who live around your land. Give them some cash and drink kaikai with them. You are a son of the soil so have fun with your people.
He said he would only go if Chichi big bumbum from Instagram failed to show up. Luckily, she called him and said her period started today.
I had the last laugh.
He had to use the ATM on our way to Ikorodu. He gave me his card and stayed in the car since the queue wasn't much. I was the fifth on the queue.
The lady in front of me was very restive and she was on a call.
"I told you I am coming. Please keep those mint notes for my husband. We are travelling to the village tomorrow abeg. I am coming now to pay and collect them. I am even at the ATM."
From her replies, I realized she wanted to buy mint ₦500 notes for her husband. I guess they would attend some social events in the village so they wanted to spray new notes.
The woman was shouting at the person in front that he should hurry up and give way. I told her to calm down but she brushed me off. I told myself; "Martin Beck Nworah, mind your business."
The ATM was dispensing old ₦500 notes. Before it was her turn to withdraw she had rushed over to the other ATM dispensing ₦1,000 notes, cursing and abusing almost everybody at the ATM.
"Able bodied young men behaving like small kids. Withdraw and give way you won't. Nonsense."
She was shouting at herself, I suppose and also begging the person on the phone to exercise some patience.
When I got to withdraw for my friend Bolu, about 5 old notes came out and the ATM started dispensing mint ₦500 notes. So the rest were new notes.
I turned and wanted to call the attention of the woman but she had left the bank. Even the people behind me said I shouldn't even try looking for her.
Everybody said she deserved what she got. If she was patient enough, she would've gotten those notes she wanted to go and pay for. Or even if she wasn't patient but spoke nicely to people here, it would've been easier to run and call her. Now she'll even buy at a higher price.
I returned to the car, took a picture of the mint notes and handed over Bolu's money to him.
"Hey, I know you will post this picture on your social handls. Don't go and claim its your money oooo."
"Of course you know I'll post it na but I won't claim the money belongs to me. You know me too well. Something even prompted me to snap it sef."
From shame to fame
We were in the same class in Primary 6, this calm and unassuming kid. He never comes to school with food, snacks or sweets. He often went around begging from other kids and those who were generous enough gave to him. I was open handed too. We were all kids between 9-12 years old, but I’ve looked long into his eyes to know he had grand plans for himself.
One morning at 11:00 am when the bell went for break time, we stood up to sing and bless the food. We thanked the Lord for those who had food but can’t eat, we thanked him for those who can eat but they have no food and finally, we thanked him for ourselves; those with food and can equally eat the same food.
You know it’s quite funny because as a child, I found those lines highly disturbing. Why would I mention those who don’t have food when I can simply pray only the last lines and move along? But then I grew up to realize certain things only made people feel good when they see themselves as more fortunate.
So that day, our poor friend didn’t go around begging for food, snacks or sweets. He simply went to one kid and told him, “I received a message from above because I am a seer now. Someone will steal your sweets tomorrow in the class. Don’t come to class with sweets.”
We laughed it off and believed he was just hungry. But true to his words, that particular kid had his 2 sweets missing in class the next day. He was the only one who lost his sweets. Our poor friend, now turned seer gave him the “I told you so look” and moved on to announce to another kid that his snack would miss. It happened.
Everyone was marvelled at this seer’s ability to know what would go missing but I knew what was happening.
Before approaching you with a message, he must’ve studied you to be sure of your movements in class, where you dropped your lunchbox and every tiny detail to help him in stealing that particular item he prophesied would get lost. So one day, I approached him and told him to stop his little game.
“But this is just a harmless game.” he said.
“You must stop it, else I’ll report you to the class teacher.” I reaffirmed
By the time he agreed to stop, he had no need to beg anybody or steal food, snacks and sweets, because every day, two or more people gave him their food, snacks or sweets to avoid the bad fortune of theft happening to them.
Soon, our seer had more than enough food, snacks and sweets for each day and he started giving it out to other kids and became the class philanthropist. Everyone now feared and respected him.
We parted ways after primary school and by chance in 2016, I saw him at a joint I liked to relax whenever I'm back from work. It was a cold evening, when someone tapped me from behind. And we were surprised to see each other.
He was in his final year as a student of Marketing and I was happy for him. I told him his natural skills would come in handy for many companies wishing to land very good salespeople in this country. He laughed real hard and shook his head.
“I have bigger plans bro, I have bigger plans and you have no idea.”
On 15th August 2020, I saw pictures from the regional office of a very popular Pentecostal church in this country. I read the profile of their young regional foreman who has a degree in Marketing and his fast rise to the position within a few years.
I remembered his words in 2016!
With a microphone and an audience ever ready to receive the message, our poor kid from Primary 6 can now join the bandwagon and experiment on the emotions, hopes and aspirations of millions, free of charge.
My controversial experience at the Club with my friend
I didn't get to have much physical contact or experiences with people this year because of Covid, but Stanley sure put up a show before the lock down earlier this year.
We worked together on reviewing the legal terms of a contract to be executed by a tech company and by the time I finished my part, he was yet to come through with his own.
When I reached out to him, he was brooding about his 2 years romantic relationship that just ended. To avoid us getting axed for not meeting the deadline, I went over to his place to assist him.
It was tough work but we finished around 1:00am and he said it was the perfect time to club. I declined, but he pleaded with me to join him so he could get his mind off the relationship disturbances. I agreed.
Before we left his house, I dropped my wallet and had only $30 cash on me, just in case we needed to get fried meat or plastic Coca-Cola. You'll later understand why this decision caught up with me.
The club was already bubbling when we arrived so it was difficult finding a spot. As I looked around, I exchanged gazes with a man who invited us to share his table. Three sitting spaces were free so we occupied two, leaving one for a lady who later joined us after some minutes.
Music was loud for no reason but then again, I was in a club. Stanley wasted no time in grabbing a red cup and pouring from the man's wine with his shining teeth. He seemed to get comfortable almost immediately. The man didn't mind and also invited me to join in the fun.
I was sampling the beautiful maidens having the time of their lives so I was a bit preoccupied. Well, that was before the lady who joined us started dancing for the man. It was a joy to behold. my eyes were filled with excitement and ideas.
While I was focused on the lady, Stanley had gone out to scout for a lady companion and returned with one. He introduced me as his younger brother who came to squat with him while I searched for admission.
Stanley turned to me after 10 minutes and asked if I came out with any cash. I was surprised my friend who dragged me to club didn't come out with more cash or card. He pleaded and pleaded till I gave him $15 from the $30 I had on me. He quickly gave it to the lady and told her to buy drinks. He promised to refund me once we returned to his house.
The music was loud, so I communicated more with hand signs than words, unlike Stanley and the man beside me who welcomed us to share his table. They preferred to shout along with the music.
I tapped the man and with hand sign, told him I approved of the lady's beauty and her dancing prowess. He smiled and using hand sign as well, showed me three.
I didn't understand and he read that from my countenance.
He laughed and shook his head. Then he dragged me closer and spoke into my right ear.
"Three kids. She has given birth to three kids for us. She's my wife. Today is our marriage anniversary. 10 years."
Whoo!
I shouted and quickly apologized for my earlier comments and admiration of his wife but he waved it off. He said they're used to it and sometimes men even approach her in his presence thinking they're siblings. It was at this point I noticed the wedding ring on their hands. His wife was just smiling.
Meanwhile, I asked Stanley about his babe who went to buy drinks and she had not returned. He used his eyes to scan the club but he didn't see her. I told him maybe she went to use the restroom.
I congratulated the couple on their anniversary and that explained maybe why the man welcomed us to share their drinks, but I was still reeling from the shock of what just happened. The man noticed and tried to cheer me up by talking with me.
Stanley even had to secure a lady to cheer me up but I didn't feel a thing no matter how much she tried. She got tired and walked away.
" seriously this babe is not coming back with the drinks ooo. Where is she?"
I volunteered to join Stanley in looking for the lady around the club and we met her outside. She was talking with a man. We calmly approached her and Stanley requested to have a sidebar with her. She declined.
Stanley asked her about the $15 for drinks and she told him she had no idea what he was talking about. I already knew how it would end if we went down that road. So I dragged Stanley away and told him to forget about it. I was in no mood for drama that early morning.
We returned to the club and the couple still kept our space for us. The man's wife was now sleeping on his chest. We finished their remaining drinks.
Before we left the club, I asked for the man's contact and he gave me his complimentary card. We've done a deal together and he is a perfect gentleman to the core.
Till now, Stanley still complains about that $15.

That was the first thing I said to her after connecting with her.
We lovingly call that **“Pitch Slap”**
It is not pretty… nor is it that well received on Linkedin.
But it happens to me all the time.
For example, I recently accepted a connection request with a guy named Tom. He immediately replied with this:
Hi Josh, I noticed you work with a lot of marketers and I was wondering if you would be interested in offering a financing option to your clients to add additional value and to add an extra revenue stream for yourself.
First of all, it is clearly a script… and clearly I’m not the right target audience… and clearly I have no idea who Tom is or what his real business is… and clearly I completely ignored him!!
LOL
Well, that is what I did to Brynne … the ol’ Pitch Slap… and this was her reply to me…
Hmm - have you met me? When you do a workshop on how to take it down a notch - let me know! 😉
Ouch.
I remember how embarrassed and uncomfortable I felt with that reply.
And, you know, I was out of line, for sure.
So much of Linkedin is about relationships…
But, not like becoming my best friend or inviting me over for family dinner.
It is a business relationship where you know, like and trust each other.
A great way to start that is with how you reply after you connect with someone.
Here’s a simple formula that I like to use… and there are half a dozen templates I like to use to make it fast and easy, but this is a great pattern you can use…
**First… Compliment Them On Something Personal or Business**
Notice that I don’t thank them first. I don’t tell them about me. I don’t offer them anything.
I compliment them. That means I need to know something about them, but Linkedin makes this so easy.
Just look at their Professional Title or the first few sentences of their summary or their picture.
Everyone loves a compliment. Plus, when you talk about them, you’ll have their attention :)
**Second… Express Gratitude In An Alpha-Neutral Way**
The way you say, “Thank you” is actually very important.
Imagine a time in the Middle Ages when Kings ruled peasants and commanded with ultimate power.
Now imagine one of those peasants asking the King for something and it being granted.
How would the peasant respond? Might be something like this…
“Oooohhh, thank you, your most excellent, wonderful, all-powerful excellence. I’m grateful beyond words for your kind benevolence!” And it would be mixed with bows and curtsies, etc…
Now, who is in the power position - or what I like to call the “Alpha” position?
The King.
The humble submission to his power clearly shows that.
Now, what if two Kings were talking and one of them granted the other a favor.
How would that King show gratitude? Might be something like this…
“I’m delighted that we could enjoy a mutually beneficial exchange.” And maybe a nod of the head in the other King’s direction.
They are equals and groveling and bowing is not appropriate.
Now, I want you to consider this silly example the next time you express gratitude.
Are you a peasant or a king?
Is the person you’re connecting with your superior or your equal?
I believe that all human beings are equal and, while I love showing gratitude, I don’t like prostrating myself or groveling.
I like simply saying, *“It’s wonderful that we can connect. I’ll keep my eyes open for how I can help your business grow.”*
Notice that I’m grateful and hinting that I have something to offer?
Way better than groveling :)
**Third… Ask An Appropriate Question Focus On Them**
Finally, I like to get to know them. Also, the person asking the questions is in control of the conversation.
And while I see them as equals, I do like to lead out so they get used to following me and complying with my suggestions.
So, I might ask something like this…
*“I noticed that you love marketing. How has your marketing approach changed during these tough times? What’s the main thing you’ve had to adjust?”*
Keep it focused on them. And notice that I’m hinting again that I can potentially bring value...
Here’s an example of how I SHOULD have replied to Brynne…
“Brynne, I loved your last article on improving your Linkedin summary… especially the part about having the opening sentence in the summary show a benefit you bring to your market.
BRILLIANT!
Hey, it's great that we can connect here. I’m going to tell some of my clients about the work you’re doing.
Lots of my connections got hammered in the last recession. Luckily most of my connections grew. What did you do to survive and thrive? I’d love to hear about one thing you did that made a difference.

I’ve made millions from the clients I’ve picked up there.
My top Linkedin success secret as a copywriter
This is a story of two copywriters (both are me… LOL).
Once upon a time, I sat staring at my computer screen.
I was looking at my Linkedin profile.
I’d heard that Linkedin was a magical way to get clients, but you had to say the EXACT right thing, to the EXACT right people and have the PERFECT profile.
“Joshua,” I said to myself, “You MUST get this right. There is so much riding on this, you just gotta get it right!”
My hands started to tremble and the sweat glands cranked up the slimy-palm juice, making my fingers sticky and clammy on the keyboard.
If deleted Professional Titles were like crumpled up pieces of paper being ripped from a typewriter and thrown at the trash can, I could have filled up a large dumpster in less than an hour.
My brain was frozen.
Everything sounded terrible to me.
Nothing was as cool as all the other writers and consultants that I was comparing myself to.
It was all rubbish and trash and worthless!
At least that’s what I thought.
You been there, maybe?
The fear of getting it just right and not making any mistakes and not looking like a fool just overwhelmed me.
And, as a result, I ended up with… NOTHING.
My profile, after a few days of trying to get it “perfect”, was totally blank.
Finally, in an act of sheer will power, I forced myself to just get something down so I could move on.
And I did.
And it was terrible… just as my fears predicted it would be.
So what is going on here???
Why is it that when I needed something so bad and just had to get it right that I bombed the whole thing?
I suppose there are lots of things happening, but for me the biggest on is secret that I think is my #1 success strategy for Linkedin.
Actually for all of my business success. This one thing just works wonders in all areas of my life.
I call it the “Great Than - Less Than - Equal To” equation.
Here’s what happens…
When I’m researching my market, I read a bunch of copy from other companies and profiles of other writers and the tendency is to think…
“I’m not as good as these guys.”
Or…
“I don’t have as much experience as they do.”
Or…
“This company is way too big for me right now. If I talk to the marketing director, she/he will see me for the fraud that I am and never hire me.”
Or…
Well, you get the point.
All of these are “Greater Than and Less Than” thoughts.
I’m usually putting myself down and lifting them up.
I tend to make regular old marketing directors and business owners invincible, perfect gods riding their chariots on Mount Olympus with 10,000 armed soldiers guarding the gates.
(I’m a little dramatic, ok… lol)
I forget that they are humans.
And I’m a human.
And, as humans, we are equal to each other.
Not the same.
Not identical.
But equal.
Two humans with similar wants, desires, challenges, fears, dreams, and all that other human stuff.
This “Equal To” mindset is central to mine and your success in every area of life.
It allows us to tone down the “perfection” story, eases up on the “exact” pressure, and let’s us get to the business of persuading people to work with us so we can bless their lives.
Give it a try with these three simple steps:
**First, Level the Playing Field**
Before you write anything, mentally visualize your reader.
Not a group of people.
ONE PERSON.
Take a mental spin with them through their day… from walking up, to getting dressed, to eating breakfast, to stressing out about a board meeting, to… whatever this human being would reasonably do during the day.
See it. Feel the day with them. Notice how very human they are.
You are not better or worse than them… just human like them.
**Second, See Their Pain and Pleasure Points**
All humans have pain in their life… and all humans desire pleasure.
Marketing is sooooo much easier when you see humans as real humans and understand their pleasure and pain points.
Forget about all the tricks and techniques and black hat stuff. Just see them for who they are.
**Third, Solve Their Pain, Enhance Their Pleasure**
Now, start writing.
Tell them how you understand their trials and troubles and pains… and how you can solve that for them and bring them greater peace, prosperity and joy.
It’s not too tricky… hey, I’ve discovered that most marketers all want the same kind of pleasure… more sales :)
Show them how your writing will deliver on that and you’ll likely get hired.
And yes, it really is just that simple…

As a writer, you need to know what the #1 thing is that clients are looking for during this crisis.

Here’s what clients want to know about you before they’ll pay you money…
I’ll tell you about something funny that happened to me the other day with my daughter Eve. Eve is 5 years old.
Bursting into my room, breathless, she jumped onto my lap.
“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! You know that thing…”
She stopped. Her face screwed up in deep thinking. Her enthusiasm suddenly transformed to consternation and uncertainty.
“You know that one thing that Enoch had. What’s it called? Oh, I can’t remember!”
I smiled.
“What are you trying to tell me? Can you describe it to me?”
“Well, its that thing that Enoch was using when we were playing the other day… you know… that ONE thing… “
I laughed. I had no idea what she was talking about.
“Ok, Eve, Daddy needs to get back to work and I don’t know what you’re talking about. When you figure it out, come back, ok?”
She slinked out of my office, sad and obviously dejected.
I couldn’t help her, sad as it was.
She didn’t know what she wanted and wasn’t clearly communicating with me.
This little experience is playing out thousands of times each day with writers.

(Don’t get stuck on “Hey, right now I just need to survive… see past the moment and the crisis. See bigger because it's out there for you!)
To do that, you need to reach deep and face the extraordinary!

Your Beliefs can make you sick
The power of belief can help heal people. But it can also harm them. If a person believes strongly enough that something will hurt him, his own fear can make him sick. For example: Once I was called to see a woman who had just had a miscarriage and was still bleeding a little.
There was an orange tree near her house. So I suggested she drink a glass of orange juice. (Oranges have vitamin C which helps strengthen blood vessels.) She drank it—even though she was afraid it would harm her. Her fear was so great that soon she became very ill. I examined her, but could find nothing physically wrong. I tried to comfort her, telling her she was not in danger..
But she said she was going to die. At last I gave her an injection of distilled (completely pure) water. Distilled water has no medical effect. But since she had great faith in injections, she quickly got better. Actually, the juice did not harm her. What harmed her was her belief that it would make her sick. And what made her well was her faith in injections! In this same way, many persons go on believing false ideas about witchcraft, injections, diet, and many other things. Much needless suffering is the result. Perhaps, in a way, I had helped this woman.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized I had also wronged her; I had led her to believe things that were not true. I wanted to set this right. So a few days later, when she was completely well, I went to her home and apologized for what I had done.
I tried to help her understand that not the orange juice, but her fear had made her so sick. And that not the injection of water, but her freedom from fear had helped her get well. By understanding the truth about the orange, the injection, and the tricks of her own mind, perhaps this woman and her family will become freer from fear and better able to care for their health in the future. For health is closely related to understanding and freedom from fear.

As I sail against the current of this salty ocean called life,
Through this gondola built out of my unprofessional craft, I won't capsize on iceberg like the gigantic titanic but on the peak of Ararat shall I port.
As I ride my camel in this caravan across this desert of life with no oases to drink,
I hope there's a stream with rivulet flow on the other side of this divide.

As I watch, the beauty of the constellation and listen to the sweet rhythm of the flowing waters and the roaring clasp of the angry oceans Living inbetween the atmosphere and the hydrospheres makes me know the existence of ups and downs.

Covid-19 has shown that God doesn't live in buildings alone, But he lives where two or three are gathered.
For a very long time, I have tried to explain to people that God is not necessarily found in buildings, rather, God is omnipresent. I have been met with stiff and violent criticism from extremists and overzealous religious folks. Some said I'm drawing back into perdition. While the far-right claimed I'm nosediving into apostasy. Infact some enthused that I'm a man of philosophy of profanity. I took it in good faith until covid-19 came to buttress my points.
Covid-19 has shown that spending money as it comes without saving is the most dangerous thing you can ever do to yourself.
Covid-19 proved that health is wealth indeed. Many countries that cannot lock their borders even when a whole state is wiped out now realize that all lives matter and that a threat to one is a threat to all. We are somehow caught up in an inescapable act of mutuality!
Covid-19 has shown that while we wait for science and technology to proffer solutions to our insurmountable problem, everyone tends to believe there's God which is the last resort of all and sundry!
Covid-19 has shown that job is temporary. You can be knocked out of your job anytime. This lockdown is a glimpse of how life after retirement looks like. Boring and isolating like this covid-19 era.
Covid-19 has proved time shall come even father cannot trust his son and a mother cannot trust her daughter.

One of my own random act of kindness
It was my year two in the college, we were about to have our second exams. The Lecturers' words sounded scary rather than encouraging. Fear of failure gripped everyone. What else can we do? Back to study!
While we were all busy studying, there came a news that one of my classmates just got a call that his mom is seriously ill and needed to be at the hospital with her. Oh why now that we just have 5 days to prepare!
He came back just a day to the 1st exam. It was a physics course and I was a kind of popular among my classmates when it comes to physics due to my previous performances. I knew he needed to be put through by someone that have read rather than reading the big textbook on his own probably starting from the first page, so I offered to help.
Even though I had 2 topics to study. I said to myself; I've studied 4 topics already but this guy probably have studied only one. I decided to put him through, did all my best.

The exam came, we all did well. And the amazing thing was that, there were no questions from the 2 topics I didn't study. He still place me high in his heart for this random act of kindness till today.
At last, I'm happy that I did it!
