Feeling unmotivated Exactly a week ago, I was at an Expertnaire event in Lagos that I was 100 times positive was deemed to change my perception of so many things and get me in the right direction. Great personalities were in attendance and I even got to meet, yes, Inneh Joseph and my mentor Kenny Nwokoye! I had the ginger! I had the hype! I was ready to go alllll the way and take my online business to the NEXT LEVEL! But then, Seconds turned to minutes Into hours Into days And now, A week And I'm stuck here looking back and wondering to myself: What happened to all that ginger? What happened to all that fired up energy What happened? Can someone please help me out here?! 😟 But, the honest truth is NOBODY CAN HELP ME None is going to do all that I set my mind to but ME! I can have all the motivational videos in the world Attend all the events in the world Read all the books Gather all the ginger But, untill I make up my mind to keep at it even when I am hundred percent UNMOTIVATED I am going to achieve NOTHING Ginger can only get me so far A conscious effort inspite and despite is what is going to take me all the way. And I've made up my mind to do just that Whatever it takes I'm not going to rely on motivation to keep me on my toes I'm going to stand firmly on them whether I feel like or not! How about you? Don't miss any opportunity Sometime last year I lodged in this nice hotel for almost one month during my stay I enjoyed this premium hotel experience my room was cleaned daily, my clothes are laundered when I need them, & if I'm hungry I only need to call but something happened that taught me a great life lesson.. One of those nights I ordered for a meal for a business guest I was expecting from Abuja but his flight was delayed so I had to find a way to preserve his meal but they only serve food till 11pm & then they close for the day I had to beg the lady to please help out It was really inconvenient for her because she was working a 24 hour shift but I had to press on her to just please help & she reacted "try and be considerate I need to rest for tomorrow!" argh, at that moment I remembered how I used to work 24 hour shifts as a receptionist my heart went out to her and I resolved to introduce a particular business to her and personally see to it that she succeeds within the shortest possible time so she can quit this job she's a young Nigerian graduate (ND) and her paycheck was 20k monthly I was pained for her It reminded me of how I used to work at a similar role for 25k which I never received in full because the management will always debit you for any slightest fault I did my best to inundate her with the facts but my sister no gree hear word it was just too good to be true Honestly I tried, I took some photos with her (for before & after use) but for some reason she couldn't afford the cost she didn't even bother to make efforts to raise the money don't tell me you don't have the money, you just don't want it bad enough yet take it from one who was once broke from someone who knows what it means to work months without pay from someone who would pray for God to touch his neighbors to give him food daily and when none comes he'd go into compulsory fasting and prayer I've been down before and I'm familiar with that street well enough your excuses are invalid, you just don't want it bad enough for this lady breakthrough came, help came, I was ready to take her by hand if need be I was just so invested in seeing her getting out of this job it was personal because it's something I wished someone did for me when I was broke & clueless last time I checked, she still works there and probably still praying for breakthrough, but my people perish for lack of knowledge! Jeff Bezos, Elon, Dangote, Mark Nzukego, just name them... these guys don't pray or fast for breakthrough but if they call you today, na breakthrough for you You should learn how to always take chances most of the time, success lies in risk taking you have to go out of the extraordinary in order to become successful There's a popular saying that opportunity comes but once Don't waste whatever opportunity you have In your journey to success, opportunities would always come, don't miss it it's not more praying you need, you need sense

Common mistakes hiring managers should avoid It’s a well-known fact that not all employees are a perfect fit for the company. The wrong hire can be detrimental to your business, and it's not worth taking any risks when interviewing someone who could potentially become an employee. But how do you know if they're right for the job? How can you tell if they'll make a good fit with your team? Unless you learn from the mistakes that hiring managers have made in the past and improve your hiring process, there is really no way of knowing. This article will help you avoid these common mistakes and hire better employees for your company. Normalise giving feedback after interviews. "We will get back to you" is not a quote, it's a promise. I don't think you fully understand the mental stress you put on candidates when you go silent on them after an interview. There is a particular organisation I interviewed with 2years ago, after the interview, I was given some assignments to carry out in furtherance of the process which I did, after that, I didn't hear back from them. A year later, I saw the same job offer and applied again, because I really loved the organization. Again, I was interviewed by a different person and even after telling them of my past experience with them, I was ghosted, again. You see, preparing for an interview is a stressful experience for a candidate, but the stress is worse after. The constant checking of call logs, refreshing of emails over and again, checking junk folder, pondering on what they could have done wrong. The way the heart races when an email notification comes in only to be disappointed after opening it. I know you're busy, but try putting yourself in the candidate's shoes. Don't give them false hope, even the bible says: "Hope deterred makes the heart weak". Hiring managers should always have an open mind When interviewing a candidate, hiring managers should not make any assumptions about their interviewees or jump to conclusions. Hiring managers often make these assumptions without even realizing it - for example, a hiring manager may think that an interviewee is not right for the job because they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ for it. Sometimes they also make assumptions about the candidate’s education level and work experience based on preconceived notions - it’s an interviewer’s job to look beyond what is on paper. Unconscious bias training can help highlight such issues, but the most important thing is that Hiring Managers always remain open-minded throughout the process and avoid making any judgments until all of the interviews have been completed. Don't become a victim of your insecurity Sometimes, there's going to be a whole bunch of obstacles and challenges that feel almost as if impossible to break through. Sometimes, it's going to seem that bad. Sometimes, life's going to feel impossible. Sometimes, you're going to be launched into a place of despair. Sometimes, NOTHING WILL SEEM FAIR. And while there might be blockers to success, it's imperative to keep pushing with the knowledge mistakes will be made and failure is inevitable. Even the world's most successful individuals have experienced their fair share of setbacks and hardships. There's much to learn from their challenges as well as their success. On gender-based stereotypes In late 2021, I had an appointment with a prospective client. A client of mine had referred me to him. When I got to the place and was ushered into his office, I could see the surprise on his face. Rather than speak to his surprised demeanour, I smiled. I already knew what he was thinking. You see, one of the specialized services I provide is to rear chicken and goats and deliver them to my clients processed and packaged. Depending on the need of the client, the chicken and goats could be processed, packaged and delivered for home consumption or for outdoor events. During my hearty discussions with the surprised client, I was able to clear his doubts and allay his fears. At the end, I got the contract! That experience got me thinking about gender-based stereotypes. As a result, 2 notions struck me. Yes, they are not original thoughts but they became quite relevant. They are: 1. There are no gender-based professions anymore. Gone are the days when certain professions were ascribed to or reserved for a gender. For example, it was inconceivable for a male to be a nurse. Nurses were mandatorily females. For another instance, engineering classes in the university used to be 100% or predominantly male. A female engineering student was a rarity. As children growing up, most of us were taught that certain professions belonged to a specific gender thereby putting a limit to our aspirations and dreams. Imagine what would have happened if we were spared of such stereotype! But how did the stereotypes begin to lose their power? Well, thanks to civil rights movements, gender equality groups and globalization. As things stand today, anyone, irrespective of gender, can study and become anything they want to become. Today we have male nurses and female engineers. I am a female, and I'm a farmer 2. We have ascribed certain dressing to certain professions. For example, I went for that appointment in a trouser suit. I was taught to dress according to where you are going to. If I am going to the market, I dress appropriately. I think my dressing threw him off a bit. It seemed to me my host was half-expecting to see me dressed in rags or dirty dresses. Naaaa!!! Far from it. I dressed with purpose - to show confidence and class. I provided the service he needed and I'm sure I surpassed his expectations because I got paid more than we bargained for. He is currently one of my most loyal clients and encourages me to do great things. My next target is to own my own farm! I am observing; I am taking notes; I am learning. One day, e go happen and I will show you proof. The major lesson for me is that no matter your gender, give your best in whatever you do. Don't let stereotypes limit you. Keep learning, keep improving. So, when you see me among fowls and goats, do not cringe or fear for my safety or wonder if I know what I am doing. What a society Seven was the last on the row, and it represented me. I watched as six people were shot, and all of them were facing me. I wanted to pray but the thought of death crippled me. With no option left, I looked up and the shooter was aiming at me. My mother would cry, I know she would ask why me? My lover, I wonder - would he ever forget me? My orphaned niece is at home, helpless and missing me. And here I was, a gun in my head - touching me. My day started well, and life was smiling at me. The last bus on my way from work was honking at me. I jumped in with my favorite purse clinging to me. But I had no idea, that the hop into that bus might ruin me. They killed with ease, and that alone terrified me. With the first victim gone, the second one looked at me. And while the chains in my wrists, clung tightly to me. I watched as the shot was missed, almost hitting me. Say your last prayer, the murderer was yelling at me. Losing my voice to fear, I mumbled - can you take pity on me? He sniffled and frowned, and the second he tried to pull the trigger on me. A Miracle happened and God stepped in, saving me. I know you might want to ask - but why me? Six captives had died, and the only survivor was me? I'd tell you a few words, I hope you listen to me. When God hasn't asked me to meet him, not even Lucifer can destroy me. ♦♦♦♦ This is fiction, but it is the reality of our society right now. From stories of kidnappers to organ harvesters and unknown gunmen. And with no help in sight nor hope for one. We are in the wake of horror. You can't conquer what you don't confront As a little girl, I was like most kids in the sense that I was afraid of the dark. I would be all happy and excited until it was bedtime and my parents had to turn off the lights in my room. Of course, all the scary “Goosebumps” characters I had read came alive then and my curtain always looked like there was a ghost behind it. Anyways, on this particular night, I was jolted awake by the sound of a sharp thunderclap. It was about to rain and if you grew up in Nigeria or live in Nigeria, you understand what that meant - there’ll be a power cut. I was terrified to open my eyes. Then came the howling of the wind, curtains flying up and down, and lightning bolts. Nothing was going to make me open my eyes. 😂 Now, that would have been great if I wasn't pressed -Talk about bad timing! I contemplated wetting the bed but then I wouldn't get chocolates. You see, I made a pact with mom that I was done wetting the bed and for every day that I kept to my promise, I got a chocolate bar. Then came the ultimate test. (was I willing to pass on the chocolate because I was scared of the dark?) Of course, not! I was going to get my chocolate come rain come shine. And so, I opened my eyes. It took about 2 minutes for my eyes to adjust to the darkness and then I gradually made my way to the bathroom all the while waiting to hear that ghostly growl but nothing happened. I relieved myself, got back in bed, and for the first time, I thought to myself, well there's no ghost after all. I felt liberated. I got up again, walked around and I think I did a happy dance. 😂 And that was how I overcame my fear of the dark. There's no sugar coating it, having a head-on collision with your fears is one sure way to coming out victorious. I mean, how will you ever know whether or not you could have won the fight if you don't step in the ring and fight? I'm not saying be violent.
