Good (?) morning noisers and how are you this morning? I hope you are in a better situation than all of us here in Greece... Fires are all around us (see picture 2), they are expecting more today (see picture 3 red colors), all night the fire was unstoppable in most of the places and today we're expecting wind, so we are more than terrified for what's gonna happen next :( I live about 90km from Athens, about 100 from Aigio, and more than 200 from Evia - still from last night we can't see the sky, there is heavy smoke and we just can't breath from the smell of the burned forests :( I tried to find news in English to show you, still I only find for this place: "Site of first ancient Olympics at risk as fires rage in Greece" - https://www.euronews.com/2021/08/05/site-of-first-ancient-olympics-at-risk-as-fires-rage-in-greece That's because everybody knows this spot worldwide, still that's only a part of the disaster :( Anyway... I don't want to make your day sad, I'm wishing to each one of you to have a wonderful day, and pray for all of us, especially people who live near the fires <3

Omg! You guys stay safe, okay?
We are far away so we are safe, BUT we have been told that the places nearby are in extremely danger for be on fire today... we just pray :(
that´s so sad Pouki, you just made it into the Spanish TV-Headlines at the evening with all this fires, I hope the firefighters will be successful in holding on these fires, fingers crosses for all of you from my side ;)
Oh that's awful! It appears that western Turkey is getting burnt up too! I hope these fires get suppressed and eventually put out soon, and maybe, just maybe, we can get a silver lining from this disastrous event. Maybe since the people of Turkey and Greece share a common problem, they can work together to help solve it? Greeks and Turks working together and getting along? Wouldn't that be great! Next thing you know maybe the Palestinians and the Israelis would stop trying to kill each other.
hihi your wish will for sure be fulfilled like the one that the Chinese and the Americans will act together in good faith because of sharing the same desease ;)
I'm afraid the Chinese and the Americans are working together, but not in good faith. What exactly were they planning when they created Covid19?
First of all you see ONLY Greece on fire, some places are near Turkey, but are Greece. Second, Turkey also had fire the last days, also Albania and other countries near us, so we couldn't help each others as we usually do in such cases. Third, Greeks and Turks, when it comes to people like us are having great relationship, the problem is with the governments and more... I wish Palestinians and the Israelis will stop someday killing each other, also Turks have an issue with other countries except Greece - it's all about f@@ng territories, as if we're getting a piece of land when we're gone from this world... :(
Yeah, the problem always seems to come from the "ruling class", doesn't it? They set us peasants at each other's throats, then when the dust clears move in and claim all the spoils.
*now I saw the map you meant you see fires in Turkey also - you are right, there is in this particular picture Turkey as well, I was talking for the other ones, sorry :(
No problem! I was pretty sure I would hit a nerve by bringing up Greece - Turkey relations. But the thing is, once you get past the superficialities, we're all the same people. Because of history, I bet many people in Greece have distant relatives from Turkey, and vice versa. USA has the same issue. We have a HUGE racial problem because slavery was once legal. But I bet many "black" people have a bit of European blood in their bloodline, and many "white" people have a bit of African blood in their bloodline.
I know about Turkey well, because my dad although is Greek, was born there and stayed until 19 years old when they started throwing Greek people out, killing them, destroy their homes and many more. He and my grandma always said that they were friends in the neighbor despite if they were Greeks or Turks, and the night they left with just a suitcase in their hands, they were lucky because a Turk police officer they knew from the neighbor , knocked their door and many others as well, secretly of course, and they told them to leave for not being killed. They took nothing from their house, they don't own the house and many more, still they were alive and safe in Greece they came by boats. When I visited Turkey, when they understood I am Greek, they were very friendly towards me and always said "we-Greeks-brothers". I have no issue with nobody , I know that bad persons are everywhere, also good ones. I despite racism, and I always want to look the bright sides of the story. Everyone on earth had wars and difficulties with other countries as well, unfortunately of course, still it happened and sadly they continue doing it :(
That's a sad story, but I'm obviously glad your dad and his family made it back to Greece okay. Yes, there are bad people everywhere. Fortunately they are a minority. However, Turkey seems unable to control the bad people in their midst. I worked with a woman who was Christian and also from Turkey. She said that growing up there was awful. Some of the other kids would taunt her, and throw rocks at her as she walked home from school. She was very happy to be in America. On the other hand, I knew some Americans who were in Turkey during the September 11, 2001 attacks. Their Turkish hosts were extremely sympathetic and did what they could to console a group of saddened, upset tourists.
