As the weather begins turning, and we have had the air conditioning turned off and windows open for the past two or three weeks, now becomes the "test." I call it "breaking the seal," which I try to avoid for as long as I can as we approach winter. That is, I try to avoid shutting the windows and turning the heat on. Once you do that you "break the seal," and you are doomed to be shut up with the windows closed and heat running until spring. Holding out for as long as I can. Fingers crossed I can hold out for at least another week, but we will see. Nights drop into the 40s and that makes it difficult—although we do close the windows a bit at night to make it less drafty.

Dude ..... you're dropping below 5 centigrade. That is too cold! For me, once the temps drop below 60 fahrenheit it's time for supplemental heat. Shut the windows and turn on the furnace!
I hear ya. While you may be an old bastard, I am a cheap bastard. lol
