I am pretty firm in my communication to any boss. Never overestimate the necessity of requiring me to do any task you ask of me under no uncertain terms, and never underestimate my ability to part ways with you, especially if the request has no direct benefit to me. But only to you. What we have is a mutual agreement to fill each other's needs under DEFINED terms. We also must have the understanding that this agreement can be terminated by either you or me at any time, and without any prior notice nor consideration for the consequence of such a decision to either party. I do not work for you, and you do not work for me. We work for each other to accomplish no other goal but to satisfy our individual needs together.

There is one thing I always say when someone asks me why I save so much of my money, and that is that it gives me freedom to choose. When you NEED that paycheck, the boss is your dictator. You are a slave to whatever he wants from you. When you can live without that paycheck, your boss becomes a slave to YOUR demands. We both need something from each other. I will give you what you want if you give me what I want. But in no way, ever, will it be a one way street on either end.
