Daily wildlife photography: the greater indian fruit bat, Pteropus medius. Fruit bats are also known as flying foxes, and this species is one of the largest bat species in the world. I had seen them fly by during my trips to Asia, but this was the first time I saw them perched, in an urban park in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Their numbers were huge, almost all tall trees had bats! As the name implies, they feed on fruit, so they are completely harmless.

This is common in Asia. When I was very young, there was one who flew to the fruit tree in my compound. My dad caught it as pet for my brother. The bat sprayed breath directly at my brother's face, causing him to be very ill with high fever. Had to spend time at the hospital.
I hope this is not the one who causes covid?🤔
