Daily wildlife photography: the Sri Lankan jackal, Canis aureus naria. This jackal is a subspecies of the golden jackal; they are a social species, and although they scavenge preferentially, they can also hunt small prey. I found this one alone, maybe on a hunting trip! I feel blessed every time I can spot mammals in the wild, since most of them don't appear as often as I would like. Photos taken in Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka.
