It seems that not just newcomers don't quite understand that the blockchain does not begin from block 556766 but the genesis block instead. Anyway, this is an informative graphic depiction of the blockchain that explains perfectly what you need to know. Bitcoin Cash is the upgrade that proceeds closer to the Whitepaper and the vision of P2P electronic cash. The problem is that BTC maximalists don't realize they are currently too far from it to be considered Bitcoin. #BitcoinCash

I don't think BCH was an upgrade of Bitcoin per se...Bitcoin implemented a change that BCH did not follow, hence the fork. Since then they have evolved separately. BCH now to me is more like LTC. Both have fast, inexpensive transactions. However, there seem to be more going on the BCH world currently.
