We never celebrate before a funeral but it feels like people do... They drink, eat and it's not about the one who died but more like a family reunion. I wonder why. As my grandpa died I was too young, the only time I shed tears was as I heard my friend the general died. I was back in time for his funeral but my father could have told me. He was the only person close to me. It was strange to see all those people at his funeral...they even stood outside the graveyard and peeped over the wall. Not one of them ever visited him or cared... A place where no one laughs or cries... 👍🍀💕
I never understood why people ate, drank and played loud music at a burial. I expected things to be solemn, and people to be quiet. The rapid change in emotions made my blood boil. At the end that was all I expected from the afterlife. If people spent all their time fake laughing and fake crying while alive, at least none should exist on the other side. Thanks for the upvote.
I hope it's quiet on the other side. I like it most that way. I have no idea about food. Perhaps it started with the idea of hospitality for those who traveled a long way? I don't think I will be on any again. If it's mine no one is invited (I told my kids) and no coffee and/or food will be served. No music and all those things I never liked.
This is a very good article that also made me think about some things. And a place where no one celebrates or no one cries is a weird idea, but it makes sense. If you ask me, I'll like it there. A place where we mind our own business and doesn't need to fake anything. In my mother's hometown, there are also events like those you mentioned. Except the undertakers dancing with the casket. Especially during the last night, many elders gather and offer some rituals. Those things I do not fully understand because I didn't grew up there.

I appreciate your article because it is a subject that not many will want to venture into although it is very much a part of life. I wondered the same questions too and I came to understand that more a cultural belief than anything.
