Current Status of the Chicken Slapping Debate Unless you've been living under a rock, (are you my neighbor?), you are certainly aware of the great YouTube chicken slapping debate. For those unfortunates who don't know what I am talking about, this is speculation over whether it is possible to convert the kinetic energy of a powerful slap, or a series of slaps, into thermal energy which will be sufficient to cook a chicken. Unlike trifling matters such as the legitimacy of the recent U.S. presidential elections, or the origins of the Covid19 virus, videos questioning the efficacy of slapping meat to raise its temperature are fortunately NOT censored on YouTube, as the second picture shows. Simply type in something like "cook chicken by slapping" into YouTube's search bar, and you will obtain similar results. If you are pressed for time, this video provides an excellent summary and exposition of the state of current research into this important question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LuB3f_ecH4 . Slapping meat to raise the heat has important ramifications for the future of the planet, as until all humans can be converted to an efficient manufactured diet, and families can be convinced to live in 25 square meter operant conditioning chambers, (aka "Skinner boxes"), where preferred behaviors can be directly rewarded, humans will continue to be a highly wasteful species regarding energy use. Slapping our meat will ease us through some difficult transitions.
