Why NFTs Suck I've written about this before, ( https://noise.cash/post/l4v77ng8 ), but I guess it needs to be said again: when you buy an NFT of an image, in the vast majority of cases all you are purchasing is a link, (a url), to an address on a server somewhere that may, (or may not), contain a copy of this image. THE IMAGE ITSELF IS NOT STORED ON THE BLOCKCHAIN! Coffeezilla just put out a new video where he interviews a guy who has taken upon himself the goal of educating people about what they are really buying when they purchase an NFT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_VsgT5gfMc . NFTs are actually even a bigger hoax than I thought because there is nothing from stopping multiple urls which point to the same server destination from being sold. Now some of you may start jumping up and down and holler, "Old Bastard, you idiot! I've made a ton of money buying and reselling NFTs!" If that's the case, then good for you. But understand that you are buying and reselling something that really ain't what it claims to be, and if you aren't careful, you'll liable to get your fingers burned. NFTs with use case...Like #Splinterlands cards....That's been my focus, not so much the 'pictures' lol
In the case of Splinterlands cards, I wonder what actually gets stored on the blockchain? Anyway, that's probably pretty good, as long as you don't overpay for them.
There's a ton of use case for them, playing the game, delegating, renting cards out for income...So much more than just the standard 'jpeg NFTs'. The cards are on chain as far as I know. But I just show up and enjoy the game lol
Given the "use cases", this sounds like an excellent use of NFT technology. So I stand corrected; Splinterlands NFTs are an exception to the "NFTs suck" rule.
NFTs are the one thing in this crypto world I have steered clear of and intend to continue to steer clear of. I have no interest in them whatsoever.
