A Troubled Bridge Over Shallow Water A few days ago I posted about how we are expanding our "egg production facility", (i.e., sheds where our hens lay eggs). Curious minds can check here, https://noise.cash/post/1w33nmqq , for pics and more info. This "facility" is on the side of a hill, at the bottom of which is a small stream. To avoid wading through the cold water of the stream, and whatever icky crud is floating/lurking in this water, you would need to cross over a bridge. Attached to this post are pics of the "bridge" across this stream. The first pic gives you a general idea of what this "bridge" looks like. The second pic is an attempt to show the two nails that stick up from the surface of the "bridge", no doubt thoughtfully placed there by someone in a successful attempt to make using this "bridge" even more difficult. I have yet to see anyone actually use this "bridge", although I was told that a few months ago one of the kids fell off it while trying to walk across it. To cross the stream, you have to walk further down a ways, to where this stream plunges underground near a tiny cliff. Past where the stream disappears is a clearing of about a meter and a half, where, if you don't mind stepping through thick mud, you can simply walk across to the other side. This brings me to the real purpose of this post, to express my frustration over the crazy way everything seems to function here. WHY did we put the sheds for the egg laying hens where we did? To get the eggs to market, after gathering them, one has to slip and slide down the hill where the "facility" is located, stomp through the mud to cross the stream, then slip and slide up another hill to get to the place where the multicab is parked. Note that both hillsides are traversed via simple footpaths that, needless to say, are muddy and slippy when it rains. (It rains here nearly every day!) I can hardly make it from the multicab to the chicken sheds and back without falling. There is NO WAY I could go back and forth carrying trays of eggs, yet the folks here do it every single day, and I have yet to hear of anyone slipping and falling. All of this seems like madness to me! But when I try to talk to folks about it, they just smile, and humor me. Do they not understand what I am saying, and are just being polite? Or do they think I am the crazy one, and that it is best to just humor me? Am I crazy? Is stinky fish cooked in vinegar, (to enhance the awful taste?), actually delicious, and I am just a hopeless lunatic, doomed to eat nothing but bread, instant ramen noodles, and the occasional grilled chicken, when we can afford it?
