The 102 Year Old Lightbulb If you look at the first pic, you will see an incandescent lightbulb that has been shining for 102 years. While it can't be said to be shining brightly, (it is rather dim), that fact that it has been giving off light for more than a century is quite a feat. Or is it? Have you ever heard of the Phoebus Cartel? Did you know that they were a group of lightbulb manufacturers who got together in late 1924 and conspired to make the average life span of an incandescent bulb SHORTER? Watch this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5v8D-alAKE , and you'll discover why large corporations are NOT to be trusted, particularly when they form alliances with other large corporations. (Ever heard of planned obsolescence? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence ) When I was younger, and more idealistic, I used to think that the government stepping in and splitting up a company once it got too much of the marketshare was simply governmental interference in the marketplace. Now I understand the dangers that can arise from a company getting too big, and that capitalism is not the same as corporatism. Rather than allow "too big to fail", we should enforce "too big to exist." Enough of my blather! Go watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5v8D-alAKE .
