There Is No Escape From Taxes! Suppose, like me, you're an American, and suppose that you have fled your country's shores to seek refuge from the long, grasping arms of the Tax Man. You settle into a backwater section of a pleasantly non-Western country, and begin to breathe long sighs of relief over the fact that now, finally, your money is truly YOURS. Well then, imagine your shock one night, when out for a snack, you happen to see the sign in the picture! Aaahhh!! Income Tax! The Philippines has an Income Tax! And to add insult to injury, they seem to have copied the IRS, (Infernal .... er, I mean "Internal Revenue Service"), practice of having returns due every April 15th for the preceding calendar year. I hope that the Philippine tax collection agency, (BIR?), isn't as nasty as the IRS, but I won't hold my breath. Until the arrival of Covid, taxes were the leading way that countries were bossing us around. However, now that proof-of-vaccine docs, (or injected chips?), seems imminent, it appears they have added another weapon to their harassment arsenal. Do you think that countries will appoint their "above the law" tax collection agencies as the new vaccine enforcers?
