Lagos of my dreams Day and night There is absence of calm The street is rowdy and people fight Children scream at the sight of light The foul odour of uncleaned drainages Uncompleted buildings with many damages The smell of cigarette fills the air And children roam the street without care The optimistic ones are hustling and bustling, Hoping to make it with one sling For profit, they pull strings Since Lagos is "the land of opportunities" They pull in all resources and go through hell; So as to have a success story to tell The poor and struggling are trampled on Children become victims of bad influence Through this, the destiny of many are hampered Evidence of societal decadence Yes! The city never sleeps But what happens in those ungodly hours Before the dawn peeps Are most times, nothing to write home about The environment is unkempt The center of excellence Has become the center of moral decadence The wealthy segregate the poor Forgetting that we all are one. How I wish Oh how I wish That there will be a switch In preferential treatments for the rich That those who struggle are supported And the midnight times are not wasted That positive societal values will be promoted Oh how I wish That street children will be well treated And blocked drainages be cleared That the supply of electricity be more constant The motion for a new Nigeria becomes vibrant That the urban and slums are clean alike The future be brighter than it seems This is the Lagos of my dreams

Broken Something is broken Broken in me Something is stolen And soon you'll see Why? Why do I keep getting used? The victim of my own excuse Turned down no matter how hard I try Some people aren't meant to be helped They bite after being fed After being lifted to the sky They scorn those who help them fly Sometimes we heal Other times, we stay broken Not because we don't want to heal It's simply because we can't Everyday you pick new peices Deep down you know it can never be as new So you move on, broken That deep cut is still open Making sure no one notices The shattering feeling never stops It hurts, but you don't want it to stop Because from there your healing comes But if you stop it without healing Then a part of your human nature dies Then you feel nothing Not the pain and aches in your heart Or a smidgen of sympathy And your heart is sealed Stone in place of flesh Nothing goes out or comes in Simply because you can't let go The healing process was slow You can't bear the thought The thought of being a means to someone's end Despite how hard you fought.
