It was held up as a demand from miners, which is questionable, and it was presented as a mostly free option, because BTC would pay for it (which is wrong) and that the miners pay for it (which is wrong too), the premise of a fund was not discussed early enough, the money was asked before the job was done, only on amaurys reputation for creating the BCH fork. As it turned out, the exclusion of others and the obvious money grab was really bad. Yes, I think he can be criticised for that. Criticized, not stopped, but the community and the market will now marginalize him. For himself, it was not a good call. He was too shortsighted.
