The roles of the media and social media in today's world **1. Social Concerns and Advocacy** The only way to be heard is to use a louder voice. Sharing and putting their voice, their campaign, in any form of media is the simplest way for advocates to be heard. If you published a post with your concerns to every social media site, your concerns will be heard one hundred and two percent of the time. Posting your advocacy as well as your social concerns may give you a chance to attract traditional media, increasing the likelihood that your issues will be heard. **2. Business** The media has altered the marketing landscape in recent years. For some reason, entrepreneurs have been utilizing the media. Media assists them in marketing their brands, allowing them to get to know and connect with their customers, and increasing their sales and audiences. Facebook reported that nine million active advertisers were using the social networking platform to promote their products and services in the second quarter of 2020, up from seven million advertisers in the first quarter of the previous year. **3. Communication** The act of transmitting information from one location, individual, or community to another is referred to as communication. In this day and age, communicating and interacting with people from all over the world, even if they are thousands of miles away, is as simple as a few clicks on your phone. According to 2019 social media statistics, there are 3.5 billion social media users worldwide, and this number is growing. This equates to roughly 45 percent of the current population (Emarsys, 2019). **4. Entertainment** Entertainment is a type of action that draws the audience's attention and interest, or brings enjoyment and delight to the audience. People nowadays use media and social media to entertain themselves. One of the best examples of media is television, which allows us to see the best stars, sports events, and meet famous people. The world has come to our room thanks to television. In terms of social media, TikTok is one of the best examples. According to statistics, there are 500 million TikTok users worldwide (monthly active users).

Is it better to be feared than to be loved? Is it better to be feared than to be loved? I first heard this statement when I’m in Senior High School. Our professor asked our class if we are in favor of that statement. Most of my classmates answered no and there is a minimal number who answered yes. Our instructor kept his smile as my classmates debated with each other. On the other hand, I’m there, sitting on my chair thinking about my answer to the said question. I was thinking, If I’m that kind of person who is lovable, generous, and kind in general, people will surely love my attitude. However, too much kindness does not assure a kind response. Other people will take advantage of kindness, others may be insecure/envious if one is loved by everyone and may cause a lot worse problems. So I concluded, maybe the opposite of the statement is not correct. I think again. What if I’m feared? Yes, people may stay away from me(which I kind of like), be mindful when they are near me but, I realized that too much fear with someone might also cause worse problems. How did I conclude that too much kindness and trepidation can cause problems? It is because I watched documentaries. Documentaries are real, true to life, and they may happen to everyone. So, neither of the two statements is correct, so I asked myself. What is the next choice? But there are no more other choices. I suddenly remember the tagalog phrase “ang anumang sobra o kulang ay masama” which literally mean “anything too much or too little is bad. This means balance. Too much love and fear are bad. I, therefore, conclude to myself that balancing love and fear is best. I raised my hand and shared my answers. Some of my classmates cheered, and my instructor nodded his head. I think he got my point.
