Gratitude Gratitude simply means showing appreciation for what a person has done for you. It is a virtue and not everyone has it.

Not everyone is blessed to have this important virtue as they did not cultivate it or make it an habit and this is either quite unfortunate. We all have been stuck in one situation or another that wasn't nice at all and we needed help from family, friends or even a total stranger. Someone came through for us no matter the situation or how uncomfortable it might have been for the person. The person helped us and was literally our savior. The only right thing to do is to show appreciation in one way or another. Like they always say it pays to be grateful. When we thank someone for helping us, it shows that we are not ungrateful human beings and we truly care about the person or what the person has done for us. This will encourage the person to help us another time whenever we may get stuck. Ungrateful people or as I would rather call them, ingrates are one of the most disliked people on the planet. The fact that they cannot not even say thank you or make a simple gesture really pisses a lot of people off. If you are that kind of person it doesn't pay you at all. Not only does it limit the number of people that can or want to help you, it also makes people to dislike or detest you because they might see you as proud and being bigger than everyone. This puts you at a disadvantage because no one wants to be your friend. Grateful people are one of the most blessed people on the planet as everyone wants to be around them. They are loved in all tribes and cultures. This is because they understand what it feels like. They know what it feels like to sacrifice your time, presence and resources just to help people out. They know that this isn't easy and thus show gratitude. My awesome sponsors, thanks for the support. Some might be showing this from a place of genuine intentions while others may not. The one's that aren't genuine about will soon be caught and their intentions will be brought out for the public to know. This is always embarrassing for them as everyone will know that they were living a façade and that wasn't their true self. We all must show gratitude whether we like it or not and we must make it an habit, part of our lives. This leads to me remember a story I once heard.

There was a certain man who needed help from his friend for a place to stay. He was going for a job interview outside of town and he needed somewhere to stay. It was only his friend that he knew was living in that town and so he asked his friend for help. His friend knowing him since way back in the university decided to help him because he remembered the good times. He was welcomed into his home and he really made himself feel at home and by that I mean the man over stepped his boundaries. He turned his friend room upside down and did whatever he liked because he thought his friend wouldn't mind because they go way back. That wasn't even enough, as the saying goes familiarity breeds contempt. He didn't even thank his friend for allowing him to stay over as he felt entitled to it. His friend didn't even talk, he just ignored it all. Few months later, he had another job interview in that same town. He didn't even bother calling his friend that he was coming over as he expected him to open his doors regardless. When he got to the gate he knocked and kept knocking but no body answered. He called his friend but he did not pick up meanwhile his friend was in the house watching him from the windows. The man was visibly upset and angry wondering why his friend wouldn't open the gate for him. He left the place many hours later frustrated and tired. The friend meanwhile was laughing inside the house. That serves him right he said to himself. This story just goes to show that showing appreciation or gratitude for what people do for you is important for you to have any future help from them. It also prevents you from being a laughing stock. Thank you for reading. This wasn't what I planned to write but I've been busy all day and I had to quickly pen something down so I hope it suffice. Also, it is an important topic for us to discuss as the society is changing and more people are having an entitlement mentality. I hope things change starting with this article. Till next time and Merry Christmas in advance.
