~The Healing Hands~ Time flies by so fast. It's already Thursday again, so time for the popular hashtag #throwbackthursday. And I might as well throwback these favorite pics of mine during my internship at the Dep't of Surgery last 2018 in one of the government hospitals here in Metro Manila. Thanks to Drs. @WannabeMD and @Tenj, I enjoyed reading their posts which made me nostalgic about my internship days. And so here I am reminiscing some of the memorable experiences that I had as a post-grad intern. Surgery was my most favorite rotation because interns were already given the chance of handling patients by doing minor surgical procedures aside from assisting major operations at the OR. Interns were assigned at the minor surgical suite of the ER receiving trauma patients from motor vehicular accidents (MVA), hackings and stab wounds, and do wound debridement, suturing of lacerations, casting, and splinting of fractured bones, and even doing finger amputation and Ungiectomy or toenail surgery. It was really a "hands-on" experience so you really feel the essence of being a physician and a surgeon. Although, I enjoyed the other departments too like the Internal Medicine wherein we do insertions of IV fluids, taking ABGs, inserting catheters and doing intubations, also reading and interpreting ECGs and X-rays. Those are the times when the Coronavirus (SARS-CoV1) wasn't yet a pandemic and still hibernating inside the pages of our Internal Med book and working in the hospital wasn't yet too dangerous. Those were the times when doctors were still adored and loved by the community and weren't bashed. The times when doctors weren't yet scared of their lives walking outside even with their white coats on. This COVID-19 has really changed everything. But thanks to the people who still have high regard for the medical profession and have trusted their doctors. You see, the hardship that we've undergone to study medicine were insurmountable but despite the odds, we've overcome all of them through persistence and indomitable will. We have sacrificed a lot of our youth, our family's money, and time to study diseases and their cure… because that is our passion, to heal the sick. We just hope that this COVID thing will end soon and it will become a thing of the past, like those pandemics that have happened 100 years ago and were just gone. Yeah, nothing is forever… and we have the assurance that all will be well again.
