What do you read today? Reading every day is a good habit. By reading, you exercise your brain or mental muscle. You see, it's just like the muscle of your body that needs to be used or exercised so that it will not become atrophied or wasted away. Reading improves your cognitive ability or skill of reasoning and solving problems. It doesn't only increase your I.Q. or intelligence quotient, but more importantly, it improves your emotional well-being. So, there is the so-called Emotional intelligence, also known as Emotional quotient or E.Q. Why so? Because reading isn't only informative, it doesn't only sharpen or hone your intellect but also trains your emotions. It helps you to be reactive that is, to process your feelings in an appropriate way to what you read. You see, reading teaches us virtues... These are moral standards of doing what is good and right. First is the virtue of self-awareness, which is to have a better understanding of ourselves. The second is the virtue of self-management that is for us to manage and control our emotions properly. And the third is the virtue of social awareness, we come to understand others and 'put ourselves in their shoes, this is called empathy. So lots of benefits that we gained from reading. Here is a short poem that just popped out of my mind after writing this article. It is of a 'free verse' style. Reading, that wonderful moment of me In my hideout in wonderland With my friends from the unknown pages Who makes me smile and cry. Reading carries me to the bosom Of that sacred time and place For my soul to relinquish Painful memories and tears. I hope you like it guys, just comment me on how does it sound to you. I just wish to write more poems even when I'm not too drunk... with my emotions! Hehe!π I don't drink alcoholic beverages though... I hope that I could improve my syntax and vocabulary as the days go by. Ok, so reading is a perfect hideaway... Hence make it a habit to make one good read each day. Happy reading! ππ Much love,π @Mitochondria Original contentπ―
