Is it possible that a fish can die from drowning or suffocation? That is, from water, because it is clear to me that if it chokes on a piece of food it can die from not being able to swallow. But what about the oxygen they take from the water through their gills? If it is contaminated, it is obvious that they die. Here I am wondering, at 57 years old, these things hahahaha.

I understand that it's very important for fish to have something in their aquarium to help keep the water clean. Some fish species are more resilient than others. Some will die quickly if you don't provide the right conditions. Others, however, won't. I know this because someone wanted to give me a fish, I refused because I didn't know how to care for it, and then I did some research.
