One of the strengths of Ferguson's successful managerial career was knowing and respecting the strength of his opponent. He knew how to defend on away grounds and always cherished valuable points gained on direct rivals soil. Carrick won't be Man U's manager for the foreseeable future but on the strength of what he has done with his game plan against Chelsea he should be a good manager anywhere he heads to. Starting three defensive midfielders against Chelsea looks ugly, but it reflects the understanding that Chelsea are a better side for now and their form needs to be respected.
