What now for La Liga For 9 straight seasons I didn't miss a single El Classico either it's played in the morning, afternoon or middle of the night. El Classico defined football at its best and worst. It was an intense rivalry championed by two superstars: Messi and Ronaldo. And then, Ronaldo moved to Juventus. Since he left I've not watched three El Classicos live. The interest and intensity is just not there. Now that Messi is gone what will happen to Liga? First off, La Liga will struggle. Their is no way they will replace the Messi appeal. Neutral viewers will drift away and Messi's fan will follow him to PSG. But just like in the case of Ronaldo the La Liga brand may improve as competition will now be more even. Without Messi's talent Barca won't be as dominant so they are no longer title favourites. A level playing field means more La Liga team becoming more popular and building the league together instead of being dominated by two super teams. EPL is popular because of the intense rivalry that has seen five clubs win the league in the last eight years. Without Messi and Ronaldo, La Liga may use the EPL template to build their brand. Despite having won just 3 Champions League trophy and produced no Ballon D'Or winner in the last 10 years, EPL is the most dominant league in Europe because of even rivalry. Messi's departure may just be what La Liga needed to become a more attractive league. Its not all doom and gloom for La Liga
