I'm not sure what Pep is thinking, but Stering is an important option on striking diversity. Losing him may not be good for ManCity.
With Haaland playing from the central striker role Foden will move to the left of the midfield. Their is no denying the fact Pep rates Foden higher than Sterling. So, Foden and Alvarez can play on the right of the attack, Mahrez and Bernardo from the left and Haaland from the middle. NB: I'm assuming Jesus will also leave so I didn't include him in the permutation.
Surely those are main squads in his mind, but it's a pity when Sterling has always been a good option for game changer. He may not be the first eleven, but he often score a critical goal when the team really need it.
Sterling is at a point in his career where he should be playing regularly. For a player that depends a lot on speed and quick turn of pace his peak is between the age of 25-30. After the age of 30 he slows down and loses a lot of that lightening speed. He needs to play where he is a sure starter. I think he is 27 now.
