I missed out on the match between Arsenal and Chelsea yesterday as I was a little preoccupied with the F1 event. So as not to miss out entirely I chose to watch the highlights of the match this morning. Though the highlights may not be a total reflection of the game, what I saw was pretty damning for Arsenal. Chelsea could've scored five. Timo Werner was behind the Arsenal defence on at least three occasions. In fact, he should've scored at least one goal yesterday. As innovative as Mikel Arteta is touted to be - by Guardiola and co. - this Arsenal defence continues to be a source of pain. A front line of Aubameyang - Lacazette - Pepe is good. Add the impressive Saka and Smith-Rowe and you've got a very good attack on their day. Partey was one of the best defensive midfielders at Atletico. Xhaka showed at the Euros that he's a capable performer in the midfield. And Bernd Leno? We all know he's really good. The problem is that defence, that soft underbelly that has cursed them even before Wenger's reign ended. If yesterday's game was a game of high stakes the little I saw on the highlights show that Arsenal would've received some serious spankings. Brace up, Arsenal fans; another tumultuous season is coming!
