Portugal 2 - 2 France As regards the penalties, the first one looked more straightforward. It was dangerous play. The goalkeeper endangered his fellow player by punching him even though he touched the ball. The penalty awarded to France was questionable. It looked really soft. One glaring thing was that the referee chose not to listen to the VAR for that penalty. He was arguing with them on the comms that Semedo pushed out his hand which amounted to obstruction. Based purely on the rule, he is right. But then the rule is subject to referee's discretion and interpretation during a match. He used that discretion when Fernandes clearly stamped on Coman in the closing stages of the match. That's no doubt a penalty if the incident occurred inside the box (At least it was on the line, which is part of the 18 yard box). Mr. Antonio Lahoz is a very experienced referee. I thought he did well enough for a match of such high stakes. He helped both sides to a perfect result by overlooking a penalty that would've sent the defending champions back home.
