**H**azard is anything or situation that can cause damage, injury or possible loss. We must not work with hazards but if it becomes necessary and inevitable, we must ensure that we apply all necessary precautions to safe guard ourselves. **Methods used to prevent hazards and ensure safety** Use of warning signs or notices Insulating/enclosing live electrical parts Use of barriers **WARNING SIGN/NOTICE** Warning against impending danger is one of the effective ways of preventing hazards and ensuring safety of personnel. These warning notices could be placards displayed on workshop walls with inscriptions such as "NO SMOKING", "NO SKYLARKING", "EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN" etc. Examples of warning signs are Mandatory signs, Prohibition sign, Advisory/safe condition sign Hazard warning signs **INSULATION OF LIVE ELECTRICAL PARTS** This method of hazard prevention involves insulating all exposed electrical conducting parts properly yup ensure that ensure that electrical current does not find its way to human body or that of live stock. It helps to prevent electric shock **BARRIERS** Barriers ate used to alert people of danger. Barriers are required in excavations, walls, roofs, edges and platforms of roofs and some kind of overhead work. **Warning Barrier** Offers no physical protection but alerts workers of impending hazard example is the barricade tape. **Protection Barrier** This type of barrier not only warns but provides adequate physical protection from falling into an excavation or opening. Examples: wood, chain, rope
