It started in 1900, during the Industrial revolution, to decrease the energy consumption. It's not logical right now, soon it will probably end
Yes, we have it here in The Netherlands too. It was introduced as a measure to save energy many years ago, but it turns out it doesn't even save energy.
It's a 100 y old measure, no longer logical, I hear about ending it every year, but still it goes on

I thought they looked into stopping with daylight savings time in Germany a couple of years ago.
If that was the case, it didn't work. But one could not have expected that from our conservative government at the time. I think that's what the EU has to decide and enforce.

Yes, your winter is just a lil more rain, not much temperature change Here rarely go under 10°c, but we have parts in Portugal that endure -0 temperature 😬
