মাছের পিতৃত্ব
আমাআমাদের সমাজেে দেখা যায়, মায়েরাা সন্তান জন্ম দেয় এবং লালন পালন করে বড় করে তোলে। পিতাকে বাইরের দায়িত্ব বেশী নিতে হওয়ায় তিনি সন্তানদের লালন-পালনে কম সময় দিতে পারেন।
কিন্তু মাছের বেলায় বিষয়টি আলা। মা মাছ বাচ্চা জন্ম দিয়েই খালাস, সুযোগ পেলে দু'একটা ধরে খায়। অন্য প্রানীদের মতো সন্তান লালন পালন করেনা। অপরদিকে মাছের বাবারা সন্তানদের প্রতি ভীষণ দায়িত্বশীল। তাদের ক্ষেত্রে পিতৃত্বের বোঝা অনেক ভারী।
উদাহরণস্বরূ, কেট ফিসের কথা বলি। এ জাতের মাছের মায়েরা একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময় ডিম পাড়ে। সেই সময় বাবা মাছটি মায়ের কাছাকাছি থাকে। মা ডিম পাড়ে আর বাবা দ্রুত একটার পর একটা ডিম মুখে পুরে ফেলে। দৃশ্যটি দেখলে মনে হবে, পুরুষ মাছ ডিম খেয়ে ফেলছে। আসলে তা ময়।

এ সময় আস্তে আস্তে পোনা বড় হতে থাকে, মুখের ভিতর থেকে সুযোগ পেলেই দু' একটা বাইরে আসে। বাবা মাছ খুব সতর্কতার সঙ্গে দুষ্ট সন্তানকে আবার মুখের ভেতরে পুরে নেয়।
যখন পোনা আরোও বড় হয়ে যায়, তখন এদের আর মুখের ভেতরে আবদ্ধ করে রখা যায়না। এরা বাইরের জগৎকে দেখতে ব্যাকুল হয়ে পড়ে। সুযোগ পেলেই দল বেঁধে বেরিয়ে পড়ে। বাবা তখন আর বাঁধা দেয় না।
তখন পোনা বাবার কাছে ঘুর ঘুর করতে থাকে। যখনই কোনো শত্রু দেখে, তখন সুবোধ বালকের মতো বাবার মুখের ভিতর ঢুকে পড়ে। আর বাবাও পোনাকে মুখের ভেতর গপ করে পুরে নেয়।
কি নিরাপদ আশ্রয়! যতদিন পোনা বড় হয়ে দায়িত্বশীল না হয়, ততদিন এ অবস্থা চলতে থাকে।।।
