Enjoying Soto Medan when it rains heavily at night
Currently, the weather is erratic, when it is not raining, the weather is very hot. The sun was shining very brightly. But, who would have thought that when the weather is hot during the day, the night becomes very heavy rain? The air that was originally very hot turned cold. When the weather is cold with rain, it is very nice to eat warm food with soup. One of the body-warming foods is hot soup. I love to enjoy soup when the weather is very cold.
But, I'm too bored to make vegetable soup. So, last night it rained very hard. Strong winds also make the air cold. Bored with soup, I decided to make Soto Medan. Just for information, in Indonesia, there are several types of Soto food, because Indonesia is a country filled with culture and tradition. Each region has its own culture and traditions. Of course, the cuisine of each region has its characteristics.
Soto in Indonesia I know there are three. First Soto Betawi, Soto Makasar, and also Soto Medan. There may be other types of Soto in some parts of Indonesia, but I only know of three. Since I was born and raised in the city of Medan, I only know Soto Medan. Of course, there are differences in each type of Soto in each region. For example, in Soto Medan, the aroma is so unique and distinctive. The gravy is thick and yellow due to the presence of coconut milk and spices in its manufacture. Soto Medan usually uses shredded chicken or beef pieces. But last night, I made this Soto Medan without shredding the chicken. I immediately put in the whole chicken wings because I didn't want to bother shredding the chicken.
The ingredients I made were very simple, namely; Chicken, Garlic, Shallots, Ginger, Galangal, Turmeric, Tomato, Pepper Powder, Tofu, Coconut Milk, Bay Leaf, Lemongrass Stem, Lime Leaves, Broth Powder, Salt, and Bean sprouts.
How to make it is also very easy; The first thing to do is to grind the garlic, onion, ginger, and turmeric by grinding them using a stone mortar. Then hit with rock galangal. Heat the oil and add the ground spices. Saute until fragrant. Then, add the bay leaves, lemongrass stalks, galangal, lime leaves, and chicken. After a few minutes add the coconut milk, salt, and powdered broth. Stir until cooked. Also, enter the toge along with the tofu. And after that, it is ready to be served to the bowl.
How delicious it is to eat Soto Medan on a rainy night and cold weather. The body feels warm and the stomach feels full. That's all I can write today. Hope you guys like it. Regards.

Midnight Fried Rice
Sunday, June 26, 2002. My cousin who lives in the city of Jambi, Indonesia came to Medan for a family event. So, after the family event was over, my cousin didn't want to go straight home to Jambi. She wanted to enjoy the city of Medan all day long. I was invited to guide her. All-day we visited places in Medan, where I was born and raised. At 10 pm we went home. It feels very tiring.
At home, I relax and watch Korean drama movies until 11 pm. At that time my stomach felt hungry and wanted to eat something filling. Because it was late at night, the food vendors were already closed. Besides, I don't dare go out in the middle of the night. I opened the refrigerator to see the ingredients for the food I was going to make. I only found eggs, sausage, onions, red, garlic, and chilies.
I thought for a moment. Finally, I came up with the idea to make a serving of fried rice to cure my hunger. I immediately sliced the onion, garlic, and chili. I also cut the sausage for me to mix into the fried rice. After I sauteed all the spices in a pan with a little hot oil, I added a plate of rice and stirred it well. Don't forget to add sweet soy sauce, salt, and pepper to make the fried rice taste so delicious.
When after I transfer the fried rice to a plate, I fry the fried egg as a side dish. Actually, I prefer to use an omelet. But, because I was so hungry, I just made the rib eye to make it go faster. After that, I ate the fried rice that I made very voraciously. I just finished the fried rice, my cousin woke up from her sleep because she smelled the aroma of the food which she said was very appetizing.
Finally, she also wanted to try my cooking. I also made another portion of fried rice for my cousin. Luckily, she liked the fried rice I made. Until the next day, my cousin was ready to return to Jambi city. She told me she would miss the fried rice I made last night. Ha ha ha. If she comes back to Medan city, I will make more special fried rice for her.
Thank you for being willing to read. Nice to meet you.

Many people like Mie Ayam
It's no longer a secret that Mie Ayam is very popular with many people, its unique taste and affordable price make this food so popular. It's just that, many people have other opinions besides the opinion above. Whatever it is, let's discuss it one by one.
First, this food is an amalgamation of two different cultures. Noodles are the staple food of the Chinese community (besides rice), this is because China can grow wheat as food. From the 17th century until the early 20th century, many immigrants from China came to Java (especially in Semarang) to trade. Once immigrants arrived in Java, they began to introduce their food, one of which was Mie.
Second, the noodles that are usually consumed by immigrants (Chinese) usually use pork, so why replace it with chicken in Indonesia. Of course, we can answer this one question, there is an extraordinary difference between these two cultures (Javanese and Chinese), one of which is the culture of the Chinese community who usually consumes pork, while the Javanese people do not eat pork because of religious influences. Finally, the local people changed the Pig to Chicken. Because of this localization, the noodles that should use pork were changed and replaced with chicken meat.
Third, the many variations of Mie Ayam make this food can be enjoyed by anyone, I often encounter Mie Ayam with different versions, the most obvious difference being Mie Ayam sweet and Mie Ayam savory (salty). There are also other quite striking differences, for example, sometimes I find a different way of processing chicken stews.
This difference is not rare, I can find differences in many places, let alone two different areas, and sometimes I can find differences in the same area. This is what makes Mie Ayam can be enjoyed by many people, its varied taste can spoil the tongue of many people. So that people can choose the version they like.
Those are three factors that I think are the reason why Mie Ayam is so popular. Of course, the filling and cheap factors are still the main factors.
Mie Ayam will probably continue to be popular with many people in the future, especially Mie Ayam is comfort food so it is suitable for many people, hopefully, with this, we will all know more about something that we did not know before, this food that is often enjoyed, namely Mie Ayam.
Stay safe and take care of your health
