Dare
**Hungry men decide they want it**
Vulnerable girls are forced to give it up
The little girls dare not refuse
Or it is taken by force.
Babies are born and snatched from their mothers
Mothers who lay still under the covers
For they dared not refuse it
Or it would be taken by force
Mothers weeping for their teens that now lie still
How unfortunate for the little ones now deprived
An ugly truth, they dare not refuse
Or it would be taken by force
A new generation begins
The wicked men return
Hungry as ever, waiting for the vulnerable to fall a victim
But to their surprise
RAPE! RAPE!
HELP! SAVE ME!
RAPE! RAPE!
HELP! SAVE ME!
They take to their heels and never return
It couldn't be taken by force.
Be Careful How You Step
On a particular sunny Wednesday afternoon during our lunch break at school, an announcement was made instructing all to converge at the hall. Soon after the convergence, our unpopular and not so like principal came forward to announce that he had enrolled the school to participate in an inter-college dance competition.
Our principal takes time to announce the criteria for winning and the mouth watering cash prize the winner would receive. He said the winner was entitled to a 100 million dollars and a full time scholarship to the best dance school in the world. She went further to state that the team to represent the school will be announced after an extensive audition had been conducted.
The whole school went agog with excitement and immediately, interested students began forming their groups in preparation for the audition. My friends: Micheal, James, Joshua and I went for the audition. My group eventually emerged as the top best and we were chosen to represent the school at the competition. Our dance style was "breakdancing" and we intensified practice. But we nursed a fear that our breakdancing were not adequate to earn us the final victory. We prayed and practiced, hoping for the best.
The night before the competition, I was startled from my sleep by a loud voice calling my name; I opened my eyes to see a dark figure holding four shinny pairs of sneakers. The figure handed me the sneakers with this warning "wear this when you dance but be careful when you step on the shoes." Puzzled and scared, I asked what this meant, but the figure had disappeared.
The next day I took the shoes to my group members and explained the unusual circumstances by which I encountered the magic shoes. We put on the shoes and went in for the competition. My group eventually emerged as the overall winner and just as we marched up the stage to receive our $100 million dollar cheque, my friend James woke me up from the sleep....
Alas it was nothing but a dream.
A Call To All Parents !!!
My daughter is six years old and is in grade one. We live about a kilometer away from school so everyday okada man whom we are familiar with takes her to school and returns her home in the afternoon because both my husband and I are working and we leave home early, just after she goes to school.
One day when I was at work I received a call from her class teacher requesting me to avail myself there as soon as was possible.
“What happened to Angel?” I questioned anxiously.
“Nothing to panic about, just make sure you come before we break up for the day.”
Of course I panicked. This had to do with my daughter and I was worried sick about her. I immediately excused myself from work and hurriedly took the first transport available. I burst into the classroom panting and sweating.
“Mama Angel,” The teacher started. “We will talk about this privately.” She led the way to an empty office and I followed meekly.
“Do you see your child off when she comes to school?” Was her first question.
I didn’t know where this was leading to, so I just replied with a short “Yes.”
“What time does she leave home?”
“She gets picked up a bit early because I have to rush to work. So around 7:00 to 7:15 a.m.
“How does she behave then?”
“She behaves normally.”
“I want you to brace yourself with what I’m about to tell you.
Are you ready?”
Did I really have a choice? I just nodded.
“Angel arrives here around 8:30 every day,” she started calmly. “For some time, she has been coming to school in tears every morning. First I thought it was because she didn’t want to come to school. Several times I asked her what the matter was but she didn’t give me a reply. Today when she arrived she was crying as usual so I took her aside, gave her some sweets and promised her some more tomorrow.
Then I asked her in a very friendly tone why she cries every day and the answer shocked me.”
She took a breath while looking at me and the anxiety almost killed me.
“Mama Angel,” she continued with caution. “The okada man has been raping your daughter every morning for some time now.”
“What!” I almost fainted. I surely would have fallen down if I had been standing. For God’s sake, Angel was only six! How heartless can some men be?
“Every day after picking her and before coming here, he would take Angel to his house, rape her and threaten to kill her if she ever tried to tell anyone. Then he’d bring her to school.”
I felt dizzy. Why? Why my little Angel? I was sweating. My whole body was shaking.
“Should I call your husband?”
“No!” I shouted. He might do anything.
Patience was something alien to him. I had to find a way of breaking the news to him. After a while, I decided to call his sister. Together we could try to talk to him.
The news shattered my husband. He cried uncontrollably. Then he got so furious that he swore he would strangle him, but we told him not to take matters into his own hands and just leave the law to do its work. We reported the matter to the police. We gave them the details of the boda boda man. They caught and took him in. We took Angel to the hospital after getting a p3 form from the police.
He was found guilty of raping our little girl a multiple number of times and was sentenced to a twenty year jail term.
Absolutely no one should be trusted with our girls. Take time to drop your kids to school, be friendly with them, teach them to be polite but never to trust strangers, ask them about their day and always make them trust you enough to open up in case of any unusual incident.
Education and Rituals
Education is the formal learning given to one in order to put the person in good shape towards the retalities of life. This has been the dreams of many parents as a day will come where it will be expected of the child to put all the lessons learnt into practice.
Rituals is a hidden way of doing things in a way that is not too palatable to the sight of people.
Education and rituals in modern days have become two parallel lines that can no longer meet. Children of this present world and age no longer believe in education as a stepping stone to their achievements. They instead believe that for them to be known and wealthy in life, it has to come through rituals which is popularly called "Yahoo Yahoo".
This has become a trend that has succeeded in changing the orientation of our youths and students especially in most West African Countries. They go into various forms of ritualistic events and they are made to perform some evil rites like eating meals prepared by the priest or herbalist, bathing nakedly in the public with specially made soaps provided for them and all manner of things.
Now, the latest trend of events is by throwing money into your compound at night, when you wake up, you see the money squeezed, if you pick the MONEY that will be YOUR end.
People have noticed different denomination of the Naira in different parts of their compounds.
This is their new strategy. It has been reported in one neighbourhood that a woman died some days ago after picking up #200 in her premises.
Let's be careful. Let's caution our children towards being influenced by evil peer groups. As a parent, we are the custodian of our children. Let's give them the necessary training needed and make it known to them that there great benefits when one is educated.
Make them to see the dangers and consequences that comes from getting involved in things that does not glorify God. Let's do our own part as a parent by guiding them towards walking on the path of greatness in life.
What life means to me.
Life is an institution of learning which goes on and on untill when one is no more.
The only thing that is constant in life is change. Situation and facet of life will keep evolving and there is need to study the trend in other for one not to be left behind.
Situations comes in different stages and it's left to is to take that crucial decision that might affect us positively or negatively.
Let's be open to opportunities and let's try everything possible to study the situations around us which varies from places to places.
