Fact 12: The first and oldest flowering plant to be discovered was the Montsechia. Montesechia is already extinct, but it was an aquatic plant that dated back to 130 million years ago. Monteschia was considered a ‘conifer’ and was discovered as a fossilized specimen in Spain in 2015.
