It was a cold October day when I visited the Fisherman's Bastion in Budapest. But when I saw this enchanting place I forgot how cold it was and I enjoyed the tour trying to find out as much as possible about it.

The Fisherman's Bastion is one of the most famous architectural monuments in Budapest. It was built in the late 19th century and, interestingly, never served as a fortification. It consists of 7 towers and they symbolize the leaders who founded Hungary. The name comes from the fish market that was located in this area during the Middle Ages. The whole area was called Fisherman's Town.

This place is fabulous and a must-see when it comes to Budapest. It is located on Buda Castle hill with a breathtaking view of the city.

The Bastion is located right next to the church of St. Matthias. This is one of the most impressive churches I have ever seen. The colorful roof makes it unique.

Between the Fisherman's Bastion and the Church of St. Matthias, there is a statue of St. Stephen of Hungary on horseback who was the first king of Hungary.

The Fisherman's Bastion is connected to the Buda Castle by closed courtyards and a terrace overlooking the Danube River. Hungarian kings lived in this castle and their presence can be felt here.

The Budapest History Museum and the Hungarian National Gallery are located in Buda Castle. To the left and right of the entrance door to the museum are statues symbolizing war and peace.

There are a lot of impressive statues and monuments here and my attention was most attracted by the fountain of Matthias Corvinus, also called Matthias I, the Hungarian king.

It's gorgeous. It consists of several statues on the rocks and water flows through the cracks in the rocks. King Matthias stands on the highest rock, and I liked the statue of the woman on the right the most. It’s Ilonka, the heroine who fell in love with the king and the fountain tells the story of it. When she fell in love with him, she did not know that he was king. When she learned that he was king, she knew she could not be his wife and she died of grief.

I think autumn is the most beautiful time of year to visit this place.

Colorful leaves and inspiring autumn make it even more beautiful.

Thank you very much for reading.

The images and writing are original and mine. The article was previously published on Hive, by me.

Greetings!
