My males don't go roaming even though they go outside, but I had them neutered so they wouldn't go 'chasing tail'.
I don't have the heart, if I have to castrate my male cat. Because I love my cats. I let my cat free, wandering the world through life. If he leaves, will definitely come back if he loves me too. But if the cat has found a new master, I'll let it go. As long as the cat is healthy and happy... heheh
I love my cats and that is WHY I had them fixed. I am a responsible pet owner and do not wish to help contribute to the number of stray cats, nor do I wish for my cats to be killed by larger animals wandering around. I also treat my cats for fleas monthly and get them rabies shots yearly.
I just love cats, who come to my house by themselves. So I don't have the right to own them, nor do I have much money to take care of them more. Just being able to feed them is already grateful, the cost of cat care here is expensive. I can't afford to pay for it, I'd rather use it to buy cat food. At first the kitten did not know where it came from, when it was 3 days old its mother died. So I helped him, by taking care of him until now. Then it's up to the cat to stay with me or not. If you are with me I will feed you, if you choose to go I will not hinder you. Because this is a domestic cat, who usually plays outside. Not the kind of cat who likes to stay at home, he's a cat who doesn't like staying at home.
Mine showed up as strays, I have had one 7 years (Scar), one 2 years (Emoci, female), and one showed up just over a year ago (Petey). After they decided this was where they wanted to live, I took them to the vet and had things done for them. They prefer a house that always has food and clean water freely available, and I spoil them like crazy. They stay outside most of the day, but I have a huge yard and wooded area for them to play and hunt in so they don't feel a need to go anywhere else.
And unfortunately I don't have what you have, so I can only give them food. And that's within my ability... heheh. How noble you are who are kind and compassionate to them, I'm sure they are happy with you. I also sometimes have the desire as you do, but I do not have the ability to do so.
I'm single these days and live alone, so I had the money to spare to have everything taken care of. Although I swear sometimes they eat better than I do. ;-)

My Mika is spayed. He was an unwanted kitten whose mom laid down in my yard. I also sterilized her, even though she is not mine. Her owner drowned the kittens, so this is definitely a happier solution for everyone,
Everyone has their own way of dealing with their pets, because they have different thoughts and goals. The solutions and inputs from all of you are good and great, but not everyone can implement it. Because there are many factors that influence it, those who have a lot of money can certainly give more love to their pets. But for those who don't have much money, being able to give food to their pets alone is grateful and feels good.
