Women and politics..

The participation of women in active politics in the world has generated much public debate in recent times. Even though a section of the populace have strongly opposed the involvement of women in active politics,there are ample reasons why such criticisms can only be attributed to an act of egoism and greed on the part of the male counterparts. There is no denying the fact that women are generally less corrupt and can give unbiased and objective leadership in politics. Because of this they are able to ensure fair despensation of Justice. How many women in the public service have been interdicted since independence? Also,women form the majority of the population of the world. It is therefore undemocratic for men who form majority to always dictate to them. Democratic government means the rule of the majority in the interests of all. Consequently,there is no democracy where the minority dominate the majority. To base policy decisions on the will of the minority is to render the decisions ineffective. Furthermore, problems and issues affecting women are becoming more and more complex and need to be solved. The changes can be brought about only by women in policy-making positions. For instance, there was a time when women in parliament proposed that a stiffer punishment should be meted out to rapists in the country. But what did we see? Because women are not fairly represented in parliament vehemently opposed the idea, so the dreams of our women parliamentarians did not come into fruition. Finally,women rub shoulders with men in almost every aspect of human life and their contributions in both economic and social development of the country make them eligible to hold political office. It is therefore, oblivious form these plethora of points that the participation of women in active politics is essential for political,social and economic development of the society, country and world at large. This is Herbert and I'm honoured to write this article which will help in the socio-economic and political aspects in the society.
