SARS COV-2: Researchers find 34 unique mutations in Bangladesh
**The SARS COV-2 has mutated 4,604 times in Bangladesh since the first week of December last year, of which 34 were unique mutations which means they do not match with any other strain found in the world.**
The researchers of Bangladesh in collaboration with Malaysia's Monash University have revealed this information after analysis of 371 genome sequences.
The researchers named the 34 unique mutations of SARS COV-2 as "Bangla Mutation".
Of the unique mutations, most cases have been found in Dhaka, Chattogram and Chandpur regions, the researchers said, adding, three unique mutations have been found in each of three regions.
Adnan Mannan, associate professor of Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Chittagong University (CU), Mahbub Hasan, assistant professor of CU Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department, and Rasel Das, assistant professor of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of University of Science and Technology Chattogram, led the study.
AMAM Junaid Suddique, head of Pathology Department of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, and SM Mahbubur Rashid, a teacher of Dhaka University, supervised the research while Hamid Hossain and Nazmul Hasan from Monash University, Malaysia, and Asma Salauddin, Rasheduzzaman and Mehedi Hasan, three students of CU, contributed in analysing the data and information.

Contacted, Dr Adnan said there are 34 unique mutations in the country and they will have to be studied further to see whether they are liable in increasing the number of Covid-19 cases at present in the country and whether they are more or less potent in spreading infection than the previous ones.
Rasel Das said the significance of the study was it has found some unique mutations of SARS COV-2 and the study also found that the tendency of mutation in D164G was frequent.
He said their study would show a guideline to research further on whether the vaccines are effective against the unique strains found in the country.
Mahbub Hasan said it is important to further research on the unique mutations found in the country to ensure none of them have the potential to cause more harm.
AMAM Junaid Siddique said the study revealed the necessity of further research on SARS COV-2 strains found in the country, adding, especially, samples should be collected from those who come from abroad and who are affected seriously to know whether they are infected by any vulnerable strains and whether the vaccines are effective against those.

The world is moving faster than ever and work has to be completed on the go! As an individual navigating through trillions of data and series of micro moments, one surely needs to know how to manage anxiety, keep calm and above all stay happy!
Recently I was invited to talk to a group of colleagues on work-life integration and balance. I was asked to explain how I manage stress and keep myself calm in an intense transforming industry. I wondered whether I would really like to go for such a session that would cover my personal life experiences as opposed to the management philosophies that I usually talk about.
The session went well indeed and the audience seemed to have extracted some good from my everyday life. After the session I was curious, I asked my colleagues to share their reflections; some of them did. One person in the audience, Farhana Islam, one of our leaders in Digital Division has become an integral part of this document as she mentioned some very interesting angles that later helped to finalise this article.
My 10 minutes of early morning
Over the last 10 years, the first thing that happens every morning has made my day. If this does not happen I feel as if something was missing the entire day. This is the time I spend to wake up my daughter and two sons from bed. Their responses are so different from one another but the exact same every morning. Still it is so joyful and fulfilling at the start of a day.
As I start by waking up my daughter Ahona, she screams “if you call me one more time I will not go to school, baba please don't do this, I will throw you out of my room.” She pleads, “baba please don't turn the lights on! I am not going to school!” Some days, while she is in deep deep sleep, she will say in a low voice, “just two minutes.” But it makes me smile.
Then I go to my boy's room, where my younger son, Edaad, is already awake, but when I see him, he puts on a heavenly smile and a quick reassurance that I am done with my sleep. He is always an early riser.
Then my eldest son, Zadeed, looks still tired, “yes its morning but why?” He starts to make excuses, like—“Edaad is in the washroom, so can I have some more time?”
Every morning these precious moments give me all the energy and truly makes my day, although it is only 10 minutes of time. This moment of closeness with my children brings me peace and balance with the diverse workload and intense business decisions that I have to make throughout the day.
Building a circle of trust
To drive the multidimensional areas of business in the most promising direction and to manage this magnificent horizon of work rightly, the importance of having the right people is undeniable. You need the right leaders around you who you can trust and then eventually build a circle of trust that grows bigger over time. By having a network of trustworthy leaders, you get to share your work.
It starts first amongst your direct reports and eventually it expands further down the line. It builds a shared responsibility among team members along with confidence and accountability. Hence it lessens your anxiety and creates more breathing space. A good circle of trust will allow you to go offline and spend some quality time out of work.
It does not happen with all the “YES MEN” together! Rather it is a diversified group of competent people at the right place with good leadership and a mix of crazy experts in the team!
Ability to quickly make a decision
A wide circle of trust creates higher ownership, engagement and more and new initiatives. In an agile and demanding work environment there is frequent need for decisions to scale things up. The inability to make a decision as a leader creates a circle of failure for the leader and the company. The leader faces increased pressure which leads to less sleep, improper planning, wrong execution and zero outcomes. Whereas the moment a leader learns to make decisions s/he sets an opportunity to move the business ahead. The stakeholders are happy and set to work. It creates an environment of agility and speed.
The leader needs to go the extra mile. I call it decisions on the go! Small decisions may not be well thought through, but to progress, one must do it multiples times a day! If there is a mistake there may be a point of no return. But the opportunity to leave office with a sense of accomplishment is always the best. Moreover, it leads to a happier evening where my wife is the head of department making the decisions! That is a part of my happiness.
Be transparent no matter how hard it is
Being transparent and honest is essential, even if it is harsh. It helps to release pressure in your inner system and also strengthens the circle of trust. Leaders often make mistakes by not being upfront with the real truth, we try to manage situations by not being transparent about the difficult reality. We explain to save moments, but once you fall in that cycle it's a trap. You then have to remember every time what you said the last time on the topic, resulting in an apprehensive environment for the leader to put up for long.
Being open and transparent helps to get your trusted people at your side, to face the challenges ahead. Solving problems together helps to create a better and happier work environment! Practice it!
(Don't) Choose (all as) your battle
As human beings we are tempted to jump into a fight when something goes wrong! Take a pause; think, could it just be a difference in thought, idea or experiment? Does someone's promotion hurt you? Someone's new product disappoints you? Truth is, psychologically we take a lot of pressure and anxiety out of our surrounding environment and events.
So, practice positive involvement. Celebrate other's successes from the heart. Find the real battle for a greater cause and be amongst those who fight together with others for the right reasons. That brings fulfilment and peace. It puts your mind in peace and helps you sleep better for a brighter morning!

And from last two days I haven’t gotten any tips yet. And that is also very much sorrowing to me.

Women Empowerment in Bangladesh
Women are making an outstanding contribution to the development journey of Bangladesh. Women's empowerment is playing a special role in transforming the economic process of Bangladesh through social change. Sheikh Mohammad Belal, Bangladesh's ambassador to the Netherlands, was one of the panel speakers at a high-level seminar at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the Netherlands, on Tuesday (February 5th).
The seminar was organized by the International Criminal Court in collaboration with the embassies of Canada and Switzerland during the inauguration of the International Gender Champions Den Haag Hub. The ‘Gender Champion’ is an initiative that focuses on individual equality and gender equality at all levels of the workplace in order to empower women.
Describing women's empowerment as a major social change for Bangladesh, Ambassador Belal highlighted the context of this change. Describing the context of Bangladesh's development progress, she said some innovative initiatives, especially the recruitment of women in micro-credit and readymade garments, have enabled them to transcend their limited boundaries and engage themselves in productive activities. Hundreds of thousands of women in Bangladesh have overcome hundreds of obstacles due to the government's policy support.Highlighting the context of the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2018, she briefed the audience on how Bangladesh has surpassed developed countries like the United States, Italy, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Singapore and other developed countries in women's empowerment. He added that in this report, Bangladesh ranks fifth in the world in terms of political empowerment of women and in this case also only Iceland, Nicaragua, Norway and Rwanda are above Bangladesh.
Explaining the contribution of working women in the garment industry in Bangladesh, the ambassador told everyone present that the wages of garment workers in Bangladesh have increased by about 262 per cent in the last nine years. He is one of the brand companies of the ready-made garment industry and the product considering all the consumers 'Introduces the proposal to attach ‘Optional Barcodes’, which may be recognized as a form of voluntary assistance to garment workers. He urged the European Union and brand companies to consider the move as a topping up process.
The seminar was inaugurated by the President of the International Criminal Court, Justice Chile Eboi Osuji. The keynote speakers were ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, Caitlin Kraft, Executive Director of Women @ The Table, and Hans de Boer, Chairman of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) and co-founder of the IGC. Heinz Walker Nederkrun, Swiss Ambassador to the Netherlands, was in charge of the operation.

Bangladesh is a small country of South Asia. It is a small country but it has huge population of 170 millions. It was under Pakistan before 1971. Bangladesh gained its Freedom in 1971 by 11 months of liberation war. From the beginning of the country it is known as a democratic country. But the democracy is present in written documents but not in real life. The people of Bangladesh have no democratic rights nowadays. It has become a one party ruled country now. Awami League has been ruling the country for almost last 13 years. Voting system is not there like a democratic country. People go to vote but not in their choice but the ruling party's. There has to be an end of this era. The people of Bangladesh do not want this kind of system in Bangladesh. They want freedom indeed. Powerful countries like America, France, England, Germany should take immediately steps against it. Only the powerful countries like those can this.
The Fall Of A Great America

In a near-perfect echo of today's world, Nobel Prize-winning Elfriede Jelinek's *On the Royal Road: The Bergher King* (Seagull Books, 2020) is stuffed breathless with metaphors, innuendoes, and anecdotes as it satirises US President Donald Trump.
The foremost of these lies hidden in the title itself—the play follows the journey of an unnamed land after its petulant and destructive new "King" has just been voted into power; but the "Bergher" in the subtitle refers both to the German word, *bürger,* for "citizens", and to the US President infamous for his plump, garish, golden-orange aesthetic. Such is the nature of Jelinek's humour, translated from the German by Gitta Honegger. The things they write of are funny because they critique the obvious and the discomforting—the fact that the people "cast their vote, but don't know who they voted for, even though they did it themselves," for instance.
Jelinek finished writing the script three weeks after Trump was elected President on November 8, 2016. By the time Honegger began writing her Introduction to the English translation in September 2019, wheels were turning on Trump's impeachment inquiry. The text, therefore, evolved almost at par with the pace of life under Trump's rule, which, as the play recounts, has included everything from word vomit on Twitter to tax fraud, displays of aggression, sexual predation, denial of truth, and individuals being stripped of finances, citizenship, and human dignity. In one of the most relatable instances, Jelinek writes, "Everyone has his own facts and everyone else also has his facts, but different ones. Of course, they are not the same, but both are true. Thus everybody has a weapon against everybody." At the centre of this storm brewed by misinformation stands the golf-loving, gold-loving King, who insists, "Only i tell the truth, i alone, i have been legitimized, here is my king's id which has been forged for a long time, but now no longer, now it's the real thing."
To control all this chaos, Jelinek presents the play entirely in the form of a monologue, delivered by a blind seer in the Bergher King's court. This seer is a manifestation of Tiresias of *Oedipus Rex,* who foretold Oedipus' destiny. Here, though, the seer-narrator is a woman—that creature that both Trump and his predecessors of classic literature so loved to silence, and she is also Ms Piggy of *The Muppet Show*—as fitting a soothsayer for a cartoonish King as can be.
Seasoned readers will notice how the play engages with Greek myths and the philosophies of Heidegger and Girard to reveal the ironies and failures of our modern existence, buoyed and weighed down by capitalism, neighbourly competition, and the violence it all brews. For many, however, the rambling sentences and absence of a plot and chapters can be difficult to digest. But if one can find the time, each and every word by Jelinek can be examined to reveal harrowing truths about a world endangered by voice given to the blind, i.e. the world of January 6, 2021, when hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol to challenge a free and fair election after being incited by his speech.
Jelinek's play was published before the breach of the Capitol, but in a fitting warning against the power of hate speech, it begins with a reminder that, "In the Beginning Was the Word", that "[e]verything has happened already, but isn't over yet." In the pages that follow, the play reveals unflinchingly how complicit everyone has been in the entire spectacle of the Trump presidency. Thailand starts COVID-19 vaccination campaign
Thailand kicked off its COVID-19 inoculation campaign on Sunday, with cabinet ministers, health officials and medical professionals among the first in the queue to receive vaccinations.
The first doses of vaccine, developed by China's Sinovac Biotech, were given to Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also the health minister, among others at an infectious diseases institute on the outskirts of Bangkok.
"I hope that the vaccination will result in people being safe from the spread of COVID-19 and it allows Thailand to return to normalcy as soon as possible," Anutin told reporters afterwards.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, 66, attended the event, although his age falls outside the range of 18 to 59 suitable to receive SinoVac's CoronaVac vaccine, so he did not get it.
Thailand received its first 200,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine from China and 117,00 imported doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine this week.
CoronaVac has been distributed to 13 high-risk provinces, which will start injecting front-line health professionals and volunteers on Sunday, the health ministry has said.
AstraZeneca's vaccine will be ready for use by the second week of March, after going through quality control tests, the company said in a statement.
Thailand is expected to take delivery of a further 1.8 million doses of CoronaVac in March and April.
A mass campaign to administer 10 million doses a month is set to begin in June, with 61 million shots of AstraZeneca vaccines produced by local firm Siam Bioscience.
With a tally of just over 25,000 infections, Thailand has escaped the kind of fallout suffered by some other countries since the pandemic began last year.

Risk of Cryptocurrency in Poor Countries Like Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Rapid Action Battalion arrested a youth for alleged involvement in trading in the cryptocurrency, a virtual currency banned in Bangladesh, from Gazipur on Wednesday.
The arrested Raihan Hossain, 29, has been cheating people online and laundering money abroad.
A case was filed against him with Safipur police station in Gazipur under the Digital Security Act, said officials.
RAB-1 deputy director Gazi Ashiqur Rahman said that Raihan has been involved in financial scams since June last year. He has been maintaining communication with international fraud chains, especially, in Pakistan, Russian and Nigeria.
Police seized 22 SIM cards, 19 fake national identification cards as well as digital devices and bank cheque books used in the scams.
The RAB officer said that Raihan was mainly hacking credit cards of different users and buying cryptocurrencies.
He was monitoring bank transactions of different bank accounts and scammed around Tk 30 lakh from those accounts since last June, said Ashiqur.
Trading in cryptocurrency or virtual currency, such as Bitcoin, is illegal in Bangladesh,’ said a RAB officer, adding that transactions were still taking place online with those virtual currencies.
Transactions in such networks are done through cryptography, using secret codes which are difficult to break to extract information, he added.
In Bangladesh, cryptocurrencies are mostly used for gambling, especially during different mega sport tournaments, or to hide illegal wealth from the government.
Some are also involved in buying Bitcoins and selling them when their price increases.
Raihan sold Bitcoins and other forms of web money to particular customers.
RAB officers said that Raihan brought an expensive car valued over Tk 1 crore recently with the money earned through financial scams.
