The gilding process My dear N is a restaurator and conservator of arts. It looks like it sounds, hehe. We have been together for over 12 years now and her work still surprises me. To be fair, gilding is quite common and this is how it looks like. A wooden (any material really) statue is prepared with bolus, a mixture of finest clay and a solvent/glue, polished, then the gold is applied with special brushes onto a special solvent ptepared surface. Everything is quite odd, brushes must be made of squrrel tails and similar materials. In the end the gold can be polished to give it a real glow. Ahate stones can only be used for this task. The picture is taken during the application of gold leafs.
