Microwork I do play around with electronics sometimes and my Lili's birthday is coming up soon. She'll be 6 and we're preparing a picnic and a treasure hunt for her and her friends. It's going to be pirates themed, with all the treasure chests and all, keys, locks, riddles and puzzles. And the treasure in the end. I need to build a metal detector and I'll go with arduino, but to make the circuit I need some diodes. And I have none. So I digged around and found some tiny surface mounted ones to repurpose. Cool! What's a diode?
A semiconductor that lets current flow in one direction, but not the other. If you combine three you get a primitive transistor, basis of all modern electronics. You also need some resistors (limit current flow) and capacitors (store charge and release it when discharged) and you can start making a primitive computer. You combine a few transistors to create logical gates (AND, OR, NOT and then XOR ((x OR y) AND NOT (x AND y)) and you're golden!
I barely learned any assembly language, (messed around with some assembler macros a bit), so I never got down to that low of a level. The XOR is confusing to me, because it seems to me that "X and Y" should be a true condition of "If X or Y".
It's an exclusive OR. So x or y, but not x and y
