Every time there is a report of sexual assault, the topic of what the victims wear always comes into question. It seems like for many people, abuse could be justified and excused if the victim was wearing skimpy outfits. Somehow, we've equated wearing revealing clothes to 'asking for it'. I've always used fashion and makeup as a way to express myself. I think I speak for a lot of women when I say that I don't dress up in short skirts or high heels to satiate the male gaze. I don't wear 'skimpy clothing' because I want to be cat-called or assaulted. I do it for myself. I do it because I feel better about myself every time I wear clothes that I feel confident in. No one should be treated like that because of what 'we' women are wearing. No one should suffer just to end up being blamed for what they are the victim of. Clothing is not and will never be equivalent to consent...
